Cristiano Ronaldo may be 39 years old. The Portuguese captain may also have had a Euros to forget in Germany. However, the man with the most goals in the history of the sport proved once again why he belongs at the very top. Al-Nassr took on Al-Taawoun at the Saudi Super Cup as Ronaldo played his first game since the Euros in Germany.
As Al-Nassr looked to get off to a winning start, Ronaldo pitched up in the penalty area to set up his teammate for the opener. The Portuguese No.7 only needed eight minutes to find a way to the goal, even though his original attempt was to find the net. An inviting ball into the penalty area eluded his reach, but grazed the forward’s boot on its way to Ayman Ahmed.
The forward fired the ball past Mailson before Ronaldo went on to grab his first in the second half. The veteran comfortably fired in from a well-worked goal which culminated in a cutback from Sultan Al-Ghannam.
Ronaldo was named the Player of the Match for his two goal contributions in his first game back for the Faris Najd.
Fans thrilled as Cristiano Ronaldo gets off to firing start in new season
Cristiano Ronaldo has kicked off his third season for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. At the age of 39, the player is yet to show any signs of slowing down, much to the delight of fans. A supporter commented that Ronaldo is still aging like fine wine. Another added that he will certainly lead Al-Nassr to the Saudi Pro League this year.
A fan claimed that age fears Ronaldo and not the other way around. Rival fans however, weren’t impressed, as they pointed out how he struggled to perform when it mattered the most at the Euros. A few mocked him for still ‘stat padding’ in Saudi and not hanging up his boots. Ronaldo fans clapped back by saying that Lionel Messi does the ‘same’ with Inter Miami in the MLS.
Al-Nassr have one more game against rivals Al-Hilal in the Super Cup before heading off to the Saudi Pro League. Their first game of the 2024/25 campaign is against Al-Raed, who finished 12th last season. Ronaldo bagged an impressive 35 goals in 31 games in the SPL, and is only 104 more from achieving the unbelievable milestone of 1000 career goals.
