As the UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin presented the Portuguese ace, Cristiano Ronaldo with the top goal-scorer award, his legacy in the hallowed UEFA Champions League was cemented. With 140 goals from 183 appearances, Ronaldo aces the chart of the goal-scorers in the hunt for European glory.

Out of the 140 goals, one of his most humdinger strikes was an overhead kick with which he scored for Real Madrid against Juventus in the 2017-18 Champions League. Visiting Turin for the first leg fixture of the match-up with the Old Lady, Cristiano Ronaldo left the world stunned with that brilliant hit which also kept Gianluigi Buffon rooted in awe.

While being in Monte Carlo during the 2024-25 Champions League, the two stalwarts of the game, Ronaldo and Gianluigi Buffon shared a light-hearted moment. Buffon said, “Cristiano told me ‘I’m sorry’ in the last match between Real Madrid and Juve.” Ronaldo responded, “I have to respect him, he’s a legend.”

It was a crazy game of two legs that saw both teams squeezing out their hearts and souls in the center. In the opening leg in Turin, it was a traveling Real Madrid who had the upper hand. Cristiano Ronaldo smashed home an all-important brace inclusive of the bicycle kick while Marcelo added a third.

Juventus was almost on the cusp of forcing extra-time after a phenomenal display that saw Mario Mandzukic hammering home a brace while Blaise Matuidi scored the all-important third. In a late move of drama, Real Madrid was awarded a penalty while Buffon was given the marching orders. Ronaldo stepped up and made no mistake in converting from the spot.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been in fine nick for Al-Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club that he is currently plying his trade for. In their impressive victory against Al Feiha, Ronaldo blasted home an absolute screamer while he had assistance from Taslica and Marcelo Brozovic as they routed Al Feiha by 4-1.

Despite coming to the season opener on the back of a couple of shaky results, where they lost against Al-Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup final and drew with Al-Raed, the team got back to its charismatic display once the season beckoned. Ronaldo’s early strike in the curtain-raiser will only be boosting the hopes in the Al-Nassr camp.
