Portuguese skipper Cristiano Ronaldo shared a video on social media, showcasing his brilliant footballing moments, after reaching the 900-career goals milestone. The 39-year-old forward recently scored the goal, in the UEFA Nations League.
The forward, who is nearing the end of his career, scored his 900th goal in the 34th minute of the match, helping Portugal earn a 2-1 win over Croatia. Ronaldo, after scoring the goal, broke down in tears, and received applause from fans, players and staff alike. Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot scored the other goal of the match in just the 7th minute, helping Portugal secure the win. The full-back also scored an own goal, as the entire action of the match remained limited in the first half.
The Al-Nassr star, following his latest achievement, shared a video, with a caption mentioning that he had dreamt of breaking the record for most career goals, and that it was a part of his wish-list. Ronaldo’s 900 goals overshadow his closest rival Lionel Messi, who has 838 goals, making it nearly impossible for any player to break the record for the next few years. The ex-Real Madrid star, through the video, also went to declare that he has rewritten history, while sharing snippets of his impressive career highlights.
Speaking to the media after the match, Ronaldo went on to say how hard he had worked to reach this milestone, and how those records often haunt him. Moreover, he stressed upon the dedication required at his age to keep scoring goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo misses out on Ballon d’Or list, despite finishing as the 2023 top goal-scorer
For a second year in a row, five-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo has been omitted from the 30-man Ballon d’Or award list. The 39-year-old forward’s exclusion has, however, surprised fans, with many criticizing the awards as biased.
Having last won the award in 2017, Ronaldo has failed to feature in the list this year, accompanied by his arch-rival and Argentine skipper Lionel Messi. This marks the first instance in over two decades that one of them has missed out from the list. Moreover, it comes, despite Ronaldo being the top scorer in the Saudi PL last season with 35 goals, and ending the previous year with 54 goals.
This has raised some serious questions the Ballon d’Or award process. Neymar Jr. had most recently, questioned the sanctity of the awards, after Brazilian forward Rodrygo failed to make it to the list, despite an impressive season.
