As Cristiano Ronaldo once said, he doesn’t follow records, the records follow him. The 39-year-old superstar is yet to get off the mark at the Euros, but registered a goal contribution as his side beat Turkiye by three goals to none.

Ronaldo clinched yet another record as his side secured qualification to the Round of 16. He is now the player with the most assists in the history of the competition.

The veteran recently claimed that he doesn’t have many years left in him and that he only wants to enjoy his final years. The player thoroughly enjoyed himself against Turkiye even though he failed to bag a goal. His assist for Bruno Fernandes came in the 56th minute, when the two were played through on goal from an unexpected pass from the back.

His unselfish assist for his teammate was praised by fans on social media. Others wanted the player to make use of the opportunity himself and register his name on the scoresheet, which he failed to do so against Czech Republic.

Following yesterday’s assist, Ronaldo has now set up a record eight assists for his Portuguese teammates.

Portuguese teammate denies Cristiano Ronaldo opportunity to break 24-year-old record

39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo is very much involved in Roberto Martinez‘s game plan for the 2024 Euros. The forward, despite his age, picked up an important assist as Portugal became the third side to qualify for the knockouts. However, Ronaldo was denied the opportunity to break another record against Turkiye because of former Real Madrid teammate and Portugal centre-back Pepe!

The veteran defender is currently the oldest player to play at a Euros. Aged 41 years and 113 days, Pepe further extended his record of being the oldest player to compete in the tournament. Behind the Portuguese was Lothar Matthaus, who was 39 years and 91 days old when he partook in the Euros 24 years ago, in 2000.

For a goalkeeper, the record is held by Gabor Kiraly, who was 40 years and 86 days old at the 2016 Euros. He played between the sticks for Hungary against Belgium as his side lost 4-0 to the Red Devils. Fans are excited to see a 39-year-old Ronaldo light up the stage for Portugal in what may very likely be his final Euros for his country.
