Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best goal scorers in the history of the sport. While many may even argue that he is the best, his ability to convert free kicks has gone down noticeably over the years. Despite scoring an unbelievable 63 free kicks throughout his career, the player has failed to score a single one at the Euros. Fans were left baffled as statistics regarding his free kick conversation rate went viral.

Portugal kicked off their campaign at the 2024 Euros against Czech Republic. Cristiano Ronaldo fails to score as Portugal claim first win at the Euros

Cristiano Ronaldo rarely has a bad day when it comes to turning up for his country. Despite coming into the tournament in ‘red hot’ form, the No.7 was far from his best on Tuesday night as Portugal grabbed a late win against Czech Republic in their opening game of the tournament. Led in attack by captain, leader and legend Ronaldo, Portugal were completely in their stride from the start.

The 39-year-old received a golden opportunity to fire his side into the lead when Bruno Fernandes put him through on goal. The entire stadium thought he had scored when Czech keeper Jindrich Stanek stood firm between the player and goal. Ronaldo also failed to take advantage from a free kick after his shot fell comfortably into the hands of the keeper.

Diogo Jota‘s goal was ruled out after Ronaldo was flagged in an offside position. The player was caught behind defensive lines on three occasions, which is the highest for any player in the opening round of the 2024 edition. In the end, no harm was done as Portugal claimed all three points thanks to an own goal followed up by a late winner from Francisco Conceicao.
