Brazilian winger Vinicius Jr. played a huge role under Carlo Ancelotti as Real Madrid marched on to win the Champions League, La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. With just over a month left for the 2024 Ballon d’Or to be announced, many believe that the Madrid winger will get his hands on the same. However, Cristiano Ronaldo certainly doesn’t think so.

In a recent YouTube video on his fast-growing channel, the former Madrid player and legend discussed potential candidates to win the award in the future. The Portuguese named players like Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and even Lamine Yamal. What was even more surprising is the fact that Rio Ferdinand mentioned Vinicius’ name in between, only for it to be ignored by the 39-year-old.

Rodri is also a strong favorite for the award after a monumental season with Manchester City and Spain. He played a huge role in City’s midfield as they won the Premier League and was indispensable for Luis de la Fuente as La Roja won UEFA Euro 2024.

The award will be announced on Monday, the 28th of October. Neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi made it to the 30-man shortlist for the first time since 2003.

Spanish legend ‘rubbishes’ Vinicius Jr.’s racist claims regarding 2030 World Cup

Vinicius Jr. recently stirred up commotion on social media after the Brazilian stated that the venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup should be changed. He insisted that the venue should be shifted if the country cannot bring down racism in the sport. While Vinicius had been subject to vile racist abuse in the past, labelling an entire nation as racist seemed a bit too much for many.

In response to the same, former Spanish International and Real Madrid goalkeeper Santiago Canizares completely disagreed and rejected the forward’s opinion.

Vinicius isn't popular in Spain because of his race. It's a question of maturity. He already made a mistake by calling the whole of Mestalla racist and now he's doing it again.

Dani Carvajal has also responded to the Brazilian in the past, arguing that Spain isn’t a racist country. Vinicius was recently mocked for his struggles to perform at International level and also for falling behind Lamine Yamal in terms of International goal contributions. The latter is seven years younger than the Ballon d’Or favorite.
