Internet sensation IShowSpeed was every Portugal fan after the full-time whistle as Portugal crashed out of the 2024 Euros against France. The men in red were unable to take the lead against France in 120 minutes, forcing the game to penalties. Despite a monumental display against Slovakia in the Round of 16, goalkeeper Diogo Costa was unable to keep out a single kick in the shootout on Friday night.

A viral video on social media shows IShowSpeed overcome by emotion shortly after Theo Hernandez‘s penalty went in. Speed is seen with his head in hands, reduced to tears as he came to the realization that Cristiano Ronaldo just played his last game ever for Portugal at the Euros. The YouTuber and social media personality has been making his way around Europe as the Euros progressed through the stages.

Speed’s idol has been rather underwhelming at this year’s tournament, having failed to score a single goal from 23 shots while also missing a crucial penalty in the Round of 16. It is unclear whether Ronaldo will still be around when the 2026 FIFA World Cup comes up.

Ronaldo ends his Euros career as the player with the most goals (14) as well as most assists (8) in the competition.

Joao Felix’s ‘costly’ error hands France a spot in the semi-final

After 120 minutes of goalless football, France and Portugal had to be separated on penalties. Despite missing a crucial penalty against Jan Oblak in the quarter finals, Cristiano Ronaldo did not hesitate to step up first for his country. Following Ousmane Dembele‘s perfectly placed penalty to Diogo Costa’s right, Ronaldo made no mistake to find the net as he placed his shot to Mike Maignan‘s right.

In the end, it was Joao Felix that missed the crucial penalty, as the forward’s spot kick hit the upright and went out of bounds. France proceeded to score every penalty henceforth, as Theo Hernandez’s killer strike ended Portugal’s dream once and for all. In a tense game of very little chances, either side appeared wasteful of their opportunities in normal time.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a crucial chance to hand his side the lead in extra time. The 39-year-old however, sent his shot from close range well over the post after catching it awkwardly from Francisco Conceicao. Fans were heartbroken to see Pepe in tears as Ronaldo consoled the veteran at full-time. France will take on Spain in the semi-finals.
