Cristiano Ronaldo recently hit the unbelievable milestone of 900 career goals with a sublime finish against Croatia. The forward was in the spotlight once again as Portugal took on Scotland in Group 1 in the Nations League. The hosts were punished in the early minutes of the game, when Scott McTominay pitched up inside the box to head home from close range.

After going behind within the first ten minutes, it was one-way traffic for the rest of the game. Dominating possession, Portugal struggled to find the net up until the 54th minute, when Bruno Fernandes fired in with his left foot from outside the box. An elegant cutback to the Manchester United man hit the goalkeeper’s gloves and into the post.

After multiple saves by Angus Gunn to keep his side in the game, up stepped Cristiano Ronaldo to steal all three points. In the 88th minute, a hopeful cross from Nuno Mendes found the player unmarked in front of goal.

Equipped with the ‘easy’ job of tapping the ball into an empty net, Ronaldo claimed his 901st career goal. With the win, Portugal are now at the top of their Nations League group while also being three points clear.

Fernandes bagged the equalizer in his 600th career appearance with a driven shot on his weaker foot. With 347 goal contributions in 600 games, the midfielder is certainly one of the best in the business.

The influence is the same whether he starts on the bench or not. Today he scored his 901st and is on his way to a thousand, which is what he wants.
