The 2026 College Football Final between Indiana and Miami welcomed a special guest. It was none other than Donald Trump.

The President of the United States of America, along with a few family members, attended the high-voltage showdown at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Monday night. Several clips went viral of Trump navigating his way to the VIP viewing gallery before kickoff with his grandkids.

Jamal Roberts, winner of the 23rd season of American Idol, took the stage to sing the national anthem before a packed crowd. As Roberts’ captivating voice filled the stadium, Trump suddenly appeared on the Jumbotron. As the melody played, the audience suddenly broke the silence and erupted in cheers for Trump.

Donald Trump witnessed Indiana win a maiden national title

It’s no secret that Trump loves America’s favorite pastime. He often drops by big college games to cheer for his favorite teams. Occasionally, he even throws in a few pointers afterwards to display his football knowledge.

With all the political turmoil that has been brewing in the North Seas, it’s a nice change of pace for the head of the nation to check out which team takes home the college football crown.

#1 Indiana came in as the favorites, but this was uncharted territory for the program. On the other side, #10 Miami was the lowest-ranked team to qualify for this year’s final. Still, the Canes have a rich history, boasting multiple national titles over the years.

Indiana, led by Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, pulled his team across the finish in a fiercely contested battle. Mendoza finished with zero touchdown passes for the first time since Week One of football. That being said, he threw 16 completions (59.6%) for 186 yards and conceded zero interceptions.

In the opposite corner stood Carson Beck. Unlike Mendoza, it was the veteran’s (in college standards) third final of his long career. He won a couple as the bench warmer in Georgia before transferring to Miami ahead of the 2025 campaign. Beck threw 19 completions for 232 yards, one touchdown, and one pick.

Despite the better statline, Beck failed to add another natty to his collection before bidding goodbye to college football. That’s because Mendoza tapped into the Heisman spirit and scored the all-important touchdown with his feet.

Six minutes into the final quarter, Mendoza took off with the ball when he saw an avenue opening up in front of him. The Miami players made every effort to bring him down, but he continued to bounce off defenders across the turf before leveraging his full 1.96-meter height to carry the ball over the goal line. Remarkably, he took a big hit on the white and still got back up to celebrate with his teammates as if nothing had happened.

A short while later, Beck connected with freshman Malachi Toney for a touchdown to close the gap. It mattered little. The IU kicker, Nico Radicic, smashed home a 35-yard field goal to seal the Hoosiers’ first-ever national title.

It ended 27-21. The Hoosiers are now only the second program to go the entire year unbeaten and win the natty since Yale did it in 1894.

Mendoza and a whole host of the IU roster are set to make the jump to pro football or graduate. So, Curt Cignetti must wave his magic wand to find a worthy replacement to defend their national crown in 2026.
