Carlos Alcaraz has shown no rust since returning to the tour after recovering from the wrist injury. On Friday (September 4), the Spaniard dismantled Wu Yibing 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, after which he removed his shirt.
And as expected, many fans at the Arthur Ashe Stadium lost their minds. Those in the front few rows instantly clicked pictures of the shirtless Alcaraz, who first removed his Nike shirt before taking off his white undershirt.
There’s a reason why Alcaraz is wearing an undershirt. It’s all thanks to a wardrobe malfunction, as his Nike tank top, well, was revealing too much. So Alcaraz wore the undershirt for extra modesty.

I think I’ve shown my ni**le too much lately. I felt like, you know, I could hide it for at least one match. I feel really comfortable, you know, with another shirt. So I think I’m going to stay like that.
Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference
The tank top was part of a Travis Scott x Cactus Jack collaboration. Alcaraz was asked whether it was his decision or Nike’s decision to wear another shirt. He also admitted that his exposed chest distracted him a bit during his second-round match against Jaime Faria.
No, it’s my decision. I wouldn’t mind if I had to play again like that, but if we could do something about it, I think it was good.
Carlos Alcaraz added
Alcaraz is chasing his third title of the season, following wins at the Australian Open and the Qatar Open. He also played the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters, but failed to go past Jannik Sinner, and this saw him lose his No.1 ranking to the five-time Grand Slam champion. The Italian ace skipped the US Open to nurse his knee injury.
Carlos Alcaraz will face Tommy Paul in the fourth round
Carlos Alcaraz has scheduled his fourth-round match against home favorite Tommy Paul, against whom he holds a 6-2 head-to-head lead, also defeating him in their last five matches, including in the fourth round of this year’s Australian Open.

He’s a really talented player, really difficult one to play. I think his style is really dangerous for everyone on the tour. The way he plays, the way he hits the ball, it’s really complicated to dominate the ball, dominate the points. His ball is slippery a lot, so it’s kind of difficult to play against him. But I’m excited. I’m really looking forward to playing him once again. Great battles.
Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference
Paul overcame Alexander Bublik in five sets in the third round, improving his head-to-head lead to 4-1. He will be playing the fourth round of his home Slam for the third time in his career. The 29-year-old is a one-time Major semifinalist, reaching the stage in 2023.
He’s such a nice guy. We just feel like we’re having fun. We pull off great points, great shots. So, it’s gonna be a really fun to watch, fun to play as well. So, I will be ready for sure. And I got to be 100% if I going to or if I want to get through.
Carlos Alcaraz added
Last year at the US Open, the seven-time Grand Slam champion defeated Jannik Sinner in the final, winning his second title at Flushing Meadows. The Murcia native won his career’s first title here in 2022 by beating Casper Ruud.
If Alcaraz beats Paul, he will square off against home favorite Ben Shelton or a resurgent Stefanos Tsitsipas. Shelton has met the Greek ace once and lost.
