Neeraj Chopra created history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in athletics at the Olympics. He clinched the gold medal in men’s javelin at the Tokyo Olympics, becoming only the second individual from India to win a gold medal at the Olympics. It was a historic day for India, as Neeraj stood on top of the podium and India’s national anthem played after 13 long years.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced a 1 crore cash award for Chopra after his gold medal winning performance. “We as Indians are proud of Neeraj Chopra as his effort at Tokyo 2020 will inspire millions of Indians to take up sport and instill belief in them to be able to compete and excel at the highest level in any discipline of the sport. His Gold medal-winning throw of 87.58m in the Men’s Javelin has galvanized the entire nation,” CSK Spokesperson told India today.
CSK will Make a New Jersey 8758 to Honour Neeraj Chopra and His Gold Medal winning throw
CSK has announced that they will also be creating a special jersey with the number 8758 as a mark of respect to Neeraj Chopra. The fanstatic gold medal for Chopra came after a huge throw of 87.58m, and the jersey will resonate the same.
Chopra entered his debut Olympics with a bang, as he qualified in the top spot for the men’s finals with a first throw of 86.65m. He absolutely dominated the finals, as his first throw of 87.03m put him in first place, way beyond all his other competitors.
Chopra bettered his throw in the second attempt, with a massive effort of 87.58m, a number which all of India will remember for years to come. No other athlete could get close to Chopra’s throw, as he clinched the gold medal for the first time in athletics for India.
