Christmas came early for the Chicago Cubs. The team is finally ready to reunite with their legendary player Sammy Sosa after 20 years of exile. There have been several players linked with using performance-enhancing drugs, but no organization was as tough as the Cubs.
Not only was Sosa denied Hall of Fame entry but he was cut off from the organization too. They clearly stated that they wouldn’t welcome Sammy Sosa to the locker room or any events until he apologized for using PEDs.
The apology finally came on Thursday. Although, Sosa didn’t directly say he used PEDs during his career with them. He admitted doing anything he could to make sure he stayed top on his game and have made “mistakes” during the process.

Chicago Cubs executive chairman Tom Ricketts accepted his apology and invited Sosa to their 2025 Cubs Convention. It’s the first time the player will step into the Cubs organization after years of being apart.
Ricketts said they are “all ready to move forward” and welcome their legend back into the club room. The annual club convention will be held from Jan. 17-19 in Chicago. With the team, he had 545 homeruns in 13 seasons.
Other PED users who were banned from MLB Hall of Fame entry
Major League Baseball has always been tough on players accused of using performance-enhancing drugs. They are strictly banned from the Hall of Fame recognition but are allowed by their respective organizations to be in the mix of events.
Some famous names apart from Cubs’ Sammy Sosa are San Francisco Giants Barry Bonds, St. Louis Cardinals’ Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens (NY Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros), New York Yankees’ Andy Pettitte, and Alex Rodriguez.
Despite their link to PEDs, they were loved and welcomed by their organizations, unlike Sosa. In 2009, Sosa tested positive for PED use by the New York Times during a survey in 2003. However he never publicly admitted using them.

Soon after the incident he retired from the field. Many linked his actions to be in connection with drug use. Even in his recent apology letter, he did not mention using PEDs, but during the 1900s PEDs was running rampant among many players. Despite everything, both parties are finally ready to bury the hatchet and start a new chapter in their lives.
