Bangladesh suffered defeat at the hands of the Netherlands on Saturday (October 28) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Bangla Tigers could not chase down a small target of 230 runs and got skittled out for 142 runs to lose the match by 87 runs.

After winning the toss, Netherlands decided to bat first. With the help of captain Sean Edwards’ 68 runs and Wesley Barresi’s 41, the Dutchmen posted 229 in their 50 overs.

Though Bangladesh did not have a good start to the run chase, Mehidy Hasan Miraj tried to control the innings with his 35 runs until Bas de Leede dismissed him in the 17th over. After Miraj’s departure, Bangladesh started losing wickets regularly. Miraj also was the highest run scorer for Bangladesh.

Paul van Meekran ran through Bangladesh’s batting line-up by bagging four wickets. Najmul Hossain Shanto, skipper Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim became van Meekran’s victims.
