The contract negotiation, if any, doesn’t seem to be going quite well between Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys. After several months of struggle, the quarterback has gotten frustrated and appears to be ready to explore his other options.
Whenever owner Jerry Jones has been asked about the contract situation of his star quarterback, he has assured fans that the team wants to keep him beyond the 2024 season. But when it comes to actually doing something about it, the Cowboys appear to be deliberately delaying the extension. Many have highlighted this stating that they will only pay if the coming 2024 campaign ends the long-standing Super Bowl drought.
Meanwhile, the three-time Super Bowl champion asserted that he is not going to rush the team for an extension, regardless of how much he wants it. In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Prescott opened up about his uncertain future in Dallas, admitting that he is ready if Cowboys’ owner Jones decided to move on from him.
I'm free right now as in, where I am in life, what I’ve done here — not what I’ve done here, but who I’ve been here. Hey, if these people want to move on, it's a business. But I know, as I said in the media, it's a two-way street. Things have to be right from my end as well.Dak Prescott told Jori Epstein of Yahoo
Judging from his words, it appears Prescott knows his worth and isn’t going to compromise on getting a deserving deal. He also understands that fans are upset with him for the bizarre loss in the playoffs last season and have also started questioning his ability to win the Super Bowl. But he knows that one game doesn’t define him as a player.
Dak Prescott embraces joy of fatherhood with his newly-born daughter
Instead of agonizing over the extension he is awaiting from the Cowboys, Prescott decided to focus on his game and most of all, his newly born daughter, MJ. His girlfriend Sarah Jane Romes has shown up for the quarterback through all of his practice drills and preseason games– carrying the five-month-old MJ in her arms.
You're frustrated about that [tough games] and then come over here and get to see her laugh. To be able to compartmentalize it, leave it right there in between those lines, come over here.Dak Prescott said about his daughter to Yahoo Sports
Whenever someone asks about his daughter, Prescott talks with high words of appreciation saying that she makes him laugh and understand what life is about. It’s truly a joyous feeling as the signal-caller described it to embrace fatherhood and he, in particular, loves every bit of it.
