Dak Prescott added one more record to his name on Sunday. He surpassed Tony Romo to become the Dallas Cowboys’ passing yards leader.

The week 12 game against the Philadelphia Eagles carried a lot of weight. Win, and the Cowboys are back in the thick of the NFC playoff picture. Lose, and the Cowboys can kiss postseason football goodbye for another year.

Prescott’s record against the NFC East is impeccable, but he suffered a defeat in the reverse fixture in week one. Winning was the only task in the veteran signal caller’s agenda.

The Eagles jumped out to a commanding 21-0 lead in the second quarter, but Prescott stepped up. He capped a 72-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown pass to wideout George Pickens.

According to longtime Cowboys reporter Ed Werder and Cowboys PR, the completion to Pickens helped Prescott become the Cowboys’ all-time passing yards leader, surpassing his predecessor, Tony Romo.

Romo threw for 34,183 yards for the Cowboys during his tenure. Prescott needed just 160 yards to pass him. He finished with 354 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 pick in week 12. StatMuse revealed that Prescott’s tally stands at 34,378 passing yards.

The Cowboys came back to secure a 24-21 victory. It improved the Cowboys’ record to 5-5-1 and second in the East. Despite the defeat, the Eagles lead the division with an 8-3 record and are in the hunt for the NFC number one seed alongside the 9-2 Los Angeles Rams, the 8-3 Chicago Bears, and the 8-3 Seattle Seahawks.

Dak Prescott praised George Pickens for another successful outing

The Cowboys’ early struggles in the game were due to fumbles and dropped passes from the receivers. However, once the Cowboys calmed down a bit, the yards and touchdowns started piling up.

Pickens caught 100% of his catches, 9 receptions on 9 targets for 146 yards (16.2 yards per catch) and 1 score. This was Pickens’ fourth 100-yard game, and a back-to-back 140+ yard game. He ended the day on 1054 total yards (his second-ever 1000-yard haul, first one since 2023 when he went 1140 yards).

After the game, Prescott raved about the 24-year-old’s contributions to the team.

My expectations are limitless with that guy. He’s not from here. He’s not from this planet. … We lucked up getting a guy like that. We have to make sure we can keep him here. He’s a hell of a player. He’s turning into a leader. He’s special.

In a separate tweet, Machota revealed that Pickens suffered a mild contusion in his left leg.

The Cowboys will need Pickens’ services next week as the Cowboys host the Kansas City Chiefs, who improved to a 6-5 record after defeating the 8-3 Indianapolis Colts.
