While the Dallas Cowboys star quarterback’s contract situation remains unresolved, there has been news swirling around the internet that the team is not going to extend him. This makes the coming 2024 season the final year of Dak Prescott with the Cowboys, ending a nine-year stint.

Despite coming off a remarkable season, the Cowboys’ front office and Prescott haven’t been able to agree to a new deal. Previously, franchise owner Jerry Jones claimed the reason for such delay in the contract was because the team expects more from these players.

I've got a ton of confidence, but honestly, it's not something I think about. I'm here in training camp and focused on this year. I'm on a contract for this year and that's all I really care about. It's not something I look for, or prepare, even plan for, but if something like that happens, I'll certainly be ready for it. That's just the business and nature of this game. That's just me not being naive to that.
Dak Prescott told FOX 4 regarding his new deal

The quarterback knows his potential and last season he proved it by becoming the Cowboys’ all-time leading passer and surpassed all prior records of Troy Aikman and Tony Romo

Dak Prescott aims for consistency and deep playoff run

At present, the Cowboys signal-caller is focused on improving his performance ahead of the 2024 season and being consistent with his training to lead the team to a deep playoff run. He is currently in the final year of his previous $160 million deal, but if the Cowboys did offer him an extension it is expected to break all records

I don't know where the peak is. I'm always trying to push the envelope. I'm always trying to get better in every aspect of this game. I feel like there is tons of room for me to improve.

Prescott posted 4516 yards and 36 touchdowns along with a 69.5% pass completion rate while also leading the team to the NFC East title last season. Even though the team witnessed a poor fate in the wild-card round, everyone claimed it was a bad game not a bad season by the Cowboys’ star quarterback.
