Even before the referee blew the whistle to start the new NFL season, something unthinkable happened that left fans inside the Lincoln Financial Field stunned. After completing their pregame rituals, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Jalen Carter engaged in a minor standoff.

What seemed like harmless banter quickly turned into full-blown taunting. Teammates tried their best to keep the two athletes away from each other’s faces, but their efforts were in vain.

Amidst the chaos, the referee threw a penalty flag that baffled everyone, including the announcers in the NBC booth. Match officials convened to discuss the matter in the middle of the field.

Following a brief pause, the main referee ejected Jalen Carter from the game. According to the refs, the third-year DT spat on Dak Prescott.

Even in this serious and tense environment, retired Eagles center Jason Kelce did not forget to crack a joke.

The Eagles lost a valuable piece in their machine. Last season, Carter amassed 42 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.

However, there is a surprising twist to the story. An extended camera shot confirmed that Prescott spat first at Carter. It riled the Georgia graduate up to even the odds. Sadly for Carter, there were no officials in the proximity to witness Prescott’s unsportsmanlike action.

Will be interesting to see how NFL reacts to the Dak Prescott-Jalen Carter spit-gate

Carter earned himself a de facto one-game suspension because of the ejection. The Eagles will miss his services in the Super Bowl 59 replay against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now the Eagles have the option of challenging the decision due to the latest evidence that proved Prescott instigated the entire spit-gate conundrum. If the league overturns its original verdict, then they can field Carter against the Chiefs.

On the other hand, the Cowboys could face a major blow if the league deemed the Pro Bowler’s act to be a direct violation of the NFL’s ethics. They might suspend Prescott instead of Carter.

If that’s the case, then the Cowboys will be without their starting quarterback against the New York Giants. Either Joe Milton or Will Grier has to deputize for Prescott in the fixture.

The only work the fans can do now is wait for the NFL to pass judgment.

Eagles snatch a crucial win against the Cowboys

The Eagles were the overwhelming favorites to defeat the Cowboys in the opening fixture. Dak gave the Cowboys the lead through a Javonte Williams touchdown, which the Eagles followed with a Jalen Hurts 4-yard house call.

Williams scored his second of the night on the first drive of the second quarter. The Cowboys’ lead lasted for eight minutes before Hurts rushed in for his and the Eagles’ second TD.

Brandon Aubrey’s 41-yard field goal restored the Dallas lead, which 2024 OPOY Saquon Barkley nullified with a 10-yard touchdown run with just seconds left in the third quarter.

Aubrey reduced the deficit to one point after smashing an FG from 53 yards right before the clock struck zero in the third quarter. The luck wasn’t on the Cowboys’ side as the Eagles’ kicker, Jake Elliott, converted from 58 yards to steal the game out of the Cowboys’ noses. It finished 20-24 for the Eagles.

Prescott ended the game with 21 completions from 34 for 188 yards and zero passing touchdowns. The partnership of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens racked up a combined 140 yards from 10 receptions (Lamb caught 7 for 110). Williams capped off a memorable debut with 15 carries for 54 yards and two touchdowns.

As for the Eagles, quarterback Jalen Hurts threw 19 completions for 152 yards, along with 14 carries with the ball for 62 yards and two TDs. Barkley had 18 carries for 60 yards and one touchdown. These two teams will meet again in Week 12 in Dallas.
