When Jerry Jones handed Dak Prescott a $60 million a year deal, many felt the 82-year-old billionaire had lost touch with reality, giving a so-far middle-of-the-pack quarterback league-leading money.

Last season, thanks to his injury, the QB did not have to face the brunt of the Cowboys’ miseries. The franchise lacked the necessary personnel on offense, and analysts rightfully blamed Jones for the mess.

This offseason, his boss addressed those concerns and retooled the offense. However, the offense did not necessarily open its taps until its fourth game of the season.

Some harrowing mistakes and injuries have not helped them so far, but Dak Prescott has done his part. After his stellar outing in Week 4, the star QB went to New York to face the Jets.

He threw for 237 yards, which would not necessarily mean much. But the fact that he only needed that much to connect on 4 touchdowns said a lot about his prowess (and efficiency) with the ball.

On top of that, he also took care of the pigskin, keeping it away from defenders, despite playing under pressure with a depleted offensive line. All of that led him to hear MVP chants of his name.

I mean, my ears work, so I heard it, but I didn’t hear it. It’s Week 5. I don’t care. I don’t care if it was Week 17. I’ve told y’all what I want to win, the team goals. Right now, the success and the continued success is going to happen, [and] it’s just a beneficiary of all the guys in that locker room.

While quoting this, ESPN’s Todd Archer added that three of Prescott’s touchdowns came against a blitzing New York Jets defense. This explains why the QB gave the entire team their flowers.

Former Cowboys star believes Dak Prescott is playing at an MVP level

Dallas Cowboys fans inside MetLife Stadium labeling their quarterback as a potential MVP candidate is not something that is extraordinary, as every team’s supporters do that for their best player.

But when Dak Prescott‘s performances are elite enough, former players, analysts, and other fans also start to take notice. One former Dallas Cowboys star, who did catch passes from the three-time Pro Bowler had this to write about his former teammates:

Dak Prescott and Baker Mayfield are my favorites for the MVP trophy at this current moment…

Dez Bryant wrote on X

The former wide receiver added Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal caller Baker Mayfield to this mix after his stellar run of games. However, his focus was primarily on the Cowboys QB after he essentially ran the Jets ragged in front of their home fans.

Dak Prescott’s form from past 2 games could spearhead MVP bid

In their Week 4 classic against former teammate Micah Parsons and the Green Bay Packers, Dak Prescott tallied 319 yards and 3 passing touchdowns to finish the night with a 124.9 rating.

In this game against the New York Jets, the father of two added 4 more touchdowns. The lack of turnovers and facing just 1 sack saw him finish with a 127.4 rating.

The Dallas Cowboys do not have an overtly concerning schedule until their Week 10 bye. If their quarterback can continue playing at this level, he could leave behind all his peers to head the MVP leaderboard.

Even though some believe he is just a good regular-season QB, and that his postseason difficulties have left many wanting more, these performances could swing the narrative surrounding him.

If his fellow offensive starters return by their bye week, it will help Dak Prescott take on the tough defenses he will face in the second part of their 2025 season.
