The Dallas Cowboys, after a string of big wins against the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, sustained a near playoff deciding loss on Thursday. The Detroit Lions defeated the Cowboys 44-30, thanks to strong performances by Jared Goff and Jahmyr Gibbs.
Jared Goff completed 25-of-34 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown, finishing with a passer rating of 111. Meanwhile, Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for three touchdowns, a historic performance on its own.
On the other end, Dak Prescott strayed away from his consistency. He threw two interceptions. Prescott has been a name that’s floated around in the MVP circles, but that’s no longer true. Or at least according to former Lions’ quarterback and ESPN analyst, Dan Orlovsky.

Orlovsky also pitched the Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love as a rising name in the MVP race. He noted that Love now has the ability and opportunity to add his name to the top contenders, Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford, with a game against the Chicago Bears awaiting this week.
I think Jordan Love has the opportunity to, very much so, start to play himself into it. I think that there’s a couple of guys ahead of it. The difference in Jordan Love recently is he’s putting the ball wherever he wants in coverage, and if he continues to do that against Chicago, I don’t think this game is close.

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys management still hopeful of a playoff appearance
According to the Athletic’s Playoff Predictor, the Dallas Cowboys barely hold a nine percent chance to make the playoffs. However, the Dallas management is hopeful.

Dallas’ general manager and owner, Jerry Jones, claimed that while it’s still a long shot, the Cowboys can still win out the table and secure their first playoff appearance in two years.
We have a better team than we played last night. We do. … Can we literally win out? Of course, we can win out. Is it going to be hard? Double, of course it is. A lot of crazy things happen.

In the post-game press conference, quarterback Dak Prescott also maintained that the team is still hopeful of a playoff appearance. He admitted that the loss against the Lions on Thursday has angered many of his teammates, which he hopes will be the driving force in the remainder of the season.
I think guys are pissed off right now… Hopefully it pisses people off the right way. We use it as fuel, and I know, starting with myself, I’ll make sure we have a great week of prep for the next one.

The Cowboys face the Los Angeles Chargers next week, and in Week 16, they play the Minnesota Vikings. They finish the season with games against the Washington Commanders and the New York Giants. Even if all results went their way, they would need a handful of other games going their way.
