Dak Prescott remains optimistic about the Dallas Cowboys’ chances of qualifying for the NFL playoffs despite suffering their third loss in six games. The Cowboys currently sit third in the NFC East behind the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders.

Dallas always travels well in Carolina. Two wins in their last couple of visits to the Bank of America Stadium gave the Cowboys favorable odds ahead of Sunday’s fixture.

However, Dave Canales’ Panthers took the game to the visitors. By the end of the third quarter, they trailed by three but took a four-point lead when quarterback Bryce Young connected with Tetairoa McMillan for his second touchdown of the game and the season.

Even though Brandon Aubrey leveled the scores a few minutes later, the Cowboys found it difficult to break down the Panthers’ defense. It took a Ryan Fitzgerald 33-yard field goal conversion to seal a monumental win for the NFC South franchise.

The defeat caused the Cowboys’ record to drop to 2-3-1 after half a dozen games with eleven left to play. Prescott has been in this situation before, and he’s not ready to count his team out just yet.

It’s a long season. I’ve been 3-5 before and we made the playoffs. We’ve just gotta find a way to win these close games. And I have all the confidence that we will.

Offense is not the problem for the Dallas team. In fact, FOX Sports rated them the best offense in the NFL, averaging 406.6 yards per game and 17 offensive touchdowns.

However, keeping the opposition quiet has been the biggest challenge in the first few weeks. They rank dead last in both overall defense and passing defense, while boasting the 22nd-best run defense (conceding 127.4 yards per game this season).

Rico Dowdle exploited the Cowboys’ weakness. Prescott’s former teammate rushed 30 times for 183 yards and also caught 4 passes for 56 yards and 1 touchdown.

Dak Prescott surpassed Troy Aikman’s record

Prescott played without key players such as CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin on Sunday. This allowed George Pickens to assume the role of WR1.

Pickens racked up his second 100-yard haul in the span of three weeks. He caught 9 passes on 11 targets for 168 yards and scored one touchdown.

Prescott, meanwhile, threw 25 completions from 34 attempts for 261 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was another MVP-caliber performance, which was overshadowed by the lackluster performance from Matt Eberflus’ defense.

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys are this year’s Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. A defense that’s absolutely atrocious, but a quarterback that’s playing like an MVP.

Dan Orlovsky said on a segment of ESPN’s Get Up

The Cowboys may have lost the tie, but Prescott etched his name in the record books. With 32,947 passing yards and counting, Prescott officially surpassed HOF Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman for the second-most passing yards in Cowboys history. The 32-year-old only trails his predecessor, Tony Romo, who threw for 34,183 across 14 seasons.

Prescott leads the league with 164 completions from 229 attempts for 1617 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He is also the highest-paid NFL player, earning $61.5 million per year.
