As the NFL regular season kicks off, one of the most burning questions was: Will quarterback Dak Prescott sign a contract with the Dallas Cowboys? The off-season drama surrounding Prescott’s future in Dallas has finally been put to rest after the franchise extended a massive $240 million contract to their QB.
The Prescott contract drama had been going on for a long time since his teammate CeeDee Lamb signed a record deal. Although Prescott is a year into his current contract, it was expected that he would ideally be given a contract once Lamb was secured.
The Dallas Cowboys management has delayed the process a lot. Owner and GM Jerry Jones put off the task of engaging in a new deal, and the drama went far too long with Jones and Prescott shooting fires. There were rumors that Prescott might walk away if a deal wasn’t fixed by Week 1.
In an interview with Troy Aikman, Prescott said that he is only bothered by the things he can control, choosing to avoid conflicts. He further stated that he tries to prove his worth on the field by being the best version of himself.
It just reminds me that this is a business and I don't take anything personal, to be honest with you. I control what I can and that's being the best in the field and leaving it upto my agent and Jones to getting the deal doneDak Prescott said

Prescott seemed clear on where he stood amid the chaos. He appeared content on leaving the things to his agent and Jones to get it done. He further pointed out that he was not affected by the deal lagging off.
No, it doesn't make me mad at all, not at all, can't sayPrescott responded to Aikman’s question
It is to be noted that Prescott’s stance had changed a lot throughout the negotiations. Earlier this week, he had sent an indirect message to the Cowboys management. Additionally, there were some speculations about who will replace Prescott. The GM also had to come out to resolve the PR ruckus and clear the air. In light of the recent news, it seems everything has finally been sorted as Prescott inked the record-breaking contract.
Dak Prescott and the Cowboys sign record-breaking contract
After much drama and tension, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have come to a historic agreement. Last year’s league runner-up MVP has inked a $240 million, four-year contract. The latest deal has made him the highest-paid player in the history of the league.
Prescott has also become the first-ever player to average 60 million dollars a season. As per Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the deal includes 231 million dollars as guaranteed money. The deal has triumphed Deshaun Watson’s deal by a million dollars in terms of the guaranteed money agreed upon.
Prescott’s deal is said to set off some major ramifications throughout the league. After Lamb and Prescott, attention has now fallen to Micah Parsons, who’s awaiting a deal. Parsons would also expect a bigger deal from the management. Secondly, considering major QBs like Brock Purdy are available for extensions in the coming year, the deal sets a precedent. These huge deals could also further affect salary caps and the financial structure of the league going forward.
