The first round of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship kicked off on the latest episode of Raw. Dakota Kai faced Katana Chance and Shayna Baszler in a triple-threat match in the first round. To the delight of many, the Damage CTRL member came out on top and is now in the running to become the inaugural champion.
Towards the end of the match, Chance went for a 450 splash on Kai, with the latter rolling out of the way just in time. The 36-year-old then caught her with a Benedryller and won the match by pinfall. She later gave a post-show interview with Cathy Kelley. She was over the moon after her victory and expressed that even after her up-and-down journey in WWE, singles gold had always evaded her.
Kai had suffered a torn meniscus a few months ago on Raw and was put on the shelf. She was written off TV after an attack by Pure Fusion Collective. The 36-year-old has a long history with knee injuries. Prior to this, she experienced a serious injury of a similar nature not more than two years ago.

The introduction of the Women’s Intercontinental Championship has been a godsend for women on the Raw roster. The Women’s World Title has been occupied with the feud between Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley. This left the other women on the roster with nothing to do. Thankfully, this new title could mean something meaningful and interesting for female talent.
Dakota Kai engages in heated social media battle with Sonya Deville
WWE superstars often use social media to further their feuds by engaging in online banter. Dakota Kai herself was involved in a feud with Sonya Deville, Shayna Baszler, and Zoey Stark before she was put on the shelf. In fact, it was the Pure Fusion Collective who injured her in kayfabe. The former Tag Team Champion recently used her X account to take some shots at the real-life Daria Berenato.
During the Survivor Series post-show conference, Iyo Sky mentioned that Kai was still a member of Damage CTRL, to which the latter said that the journalist had forgotten her. Sonya Deville tweeted that the Shimmer tag champ spent so much time on the shelf that she was pretty forgettable.

In response, Kai called her out for the hypocrisy of this statement. With the Raw superstar now back on TV, she can pursue revenge against the Pure Fusion Collective. She has already knocked Baszler out of the Women’s Intercontinental Title tournament and is likely coming after the others soon.
