Recently a leak has showed NASCAR has replaced the second Richmond Cup race for the 2024 season. The NASCAR community was expecting probability of the race venue, but had some hopes that the sanctioning body might rethink as the two races hosted at the track were among the most entertaining ones of the season.

But they were disappointed since the leaked schedule shows Richmond race-2 getting axed. Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. was one of the most vocal advocates for the race stays at the track and he is now really disappointed. He shared his views on the recent episode of the Dale Jr. Download podcast.

That’s an unfortunate thing for Richmond but we kind of saw the writing on the wall with the short-track package being as crappy as it’s been over the last handful of years since the NextGen car came on.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dale Jr. Download.

Junior asserted that there are no good arguments that call of a removal of the track, though the facilities at the track isn’t on modern enough compared to others. He asserted that the races being less entertaining there has more to do with the poor Next-Gen short-track package than the track characteristics.

I’m not going to go easy on that, it’s been terrible. Atrocious. You can saw what you want about Richmond, the racetrack, the facility, how they’ve performed in terms of modernizing comparable to other facilities and what kind of draw it might be, but the lousy way that the short-track package has been going for a while is the No. 1 reason why that racetrack doesn’t have two dates.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. calls for North Wilkesboro points-race

On the same podcast Junior admitted that he wats to see a points race at North Wolkesboro, that would be hosting All-Star race this season as well. He wants the track to host a 400-lap race and the All-Star race to be moved to another location.

Wilkesboro’s still an All-Star race, can’t wait to hopefully see a points race there. I’m ready for the All-Star race to move somewhere else and for Wilkesboro to get a 400-lapper, something like that.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

The Hall of Famer has a strong argument for NWB getting a points race. The track has properly been established with its return and it does deserve to have a shot at a points race. This would also help possibly another legendary track to have the All-Star race.
