The 2024 NASCAR season witnessed a dramatic end to the year in the season finale, with the all three series getting surprise champions. Though the races were impressive, there is still scope for improvements. Moving the finale from Phoenix Raceway is one of the most voiced suggestions to accomplish this goal.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr., while discussing about the same in his podcast Dale Jr. Download, has asserted that the race should be moved to someplace else. He likes the season finale venue to be moved around every year. Junior also didn’t hesitate to give credit to the track though, as he believes the venue has delivered great events over the years.
While further talking about the point, Dale Jr. pointed out that the track isn’t a bad facility as there is enough space for all the activities, with a lot of money being invested into it. He highlighted how the interior and exterior of the tracks is made for the comfort of the fans.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserts NASCAR isn’t going back to the traditional system
One other major point of discussion after the season finale was the issue with the championship format, as the playoff favoring one off win more. While talking about it, Junior pointed out that NASCAR is looking to find the better version of the post-season format and there is no going back to the traditional point format.
The points made by Junior seems rational, as there is no going back from the playoff format. The chase system gives more drama and story lines, losing it won’t do any good fort the sport. On the contrary it will only hurt the sport.
