The stock car racing community is set for an iconic moment in the 2026 NASCAR season opener at Daytona International Speedway. Hall of Famer Tony Stewart is set to make return to stock car racing for the first time since his retirement. He will drive the No. 25 Ram truck for Kaulig Racing, marking the Dodge sub-brands debut.
Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. talked about the veteran’s return on his podcast and highlighted how impressive it. Tony Stewart hasn’t driven in NASCAR since 2016, almost decade and his last Truck race was in 2005, two decades ago. It takes a daredevil like Stewart to make a comeback at Daytona after such long hiatus.
He hadn’t been in NASCAR since 2016, and this will be his first Truck race since 2005. Boy, he picked a doozy. The dude don’t give a s**t. I wouldn’t have picked Daytona; I would have picked somewhere else. It must be writing him a nice check.

The JR Motorsports owner believes Dodge/RAM would’ve given the veteran a hefty check for the stock car racing return and asserted that the OEM is making the move to create a splash around their return. It has nothing to do with making the program better, instead has everything to do with their PR.
This is what Dodge wants to do. They want to create noise, they want to create a splash. This doesn’t work for Dodge just by building trucks, cars going out, and winning races. They need the story, they need to be the big deal on social media, they need everybody talking about this.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.
Further talking about the point, the two times Busch Series champion pointed out that the Tony Stewart move will help them long term. Junior asserted that if they are able to make a return on the investment in terms of results as well as sponsorships, Kaulig will be able convince Dodge to give them more financial support to get back to the Cup Series.
That is the way that they’ll get their board and everybody at Dodge to help support financially what’s going to be required for them to get all the way back through the Cup Series.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. asserted.
Tony Stewart racing for them is a dream moment for Kaulig Racing
During the announcement of Tony Stewart’s return, the owner Kaulig Racing, Matt Kaulig admitted that this was a dream come true moment for him. He never expected such big legend of the sport one day driving for him and pointed out that his team is more motivated than ever to make a mark.

Having Tony Stewart in one of our Ram trucks is the kind of thing you dream about. He’s a legend—his name alone brings energy to the sport. We couldn’t be more fired up to have him in our camp as we roll into Daytona for our first race. This is going to be a ride worth watching.
Matt Kaulig said.
The comments from the veteran team owner seems rational and on point. The whole NASCAR garage will be more excited than ever with the change and it would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the veteran on his Truck return after two-decade haitus.
