One of the major controversies that has been the talking point in the NASCAR community over the last few seasons has been the charter negotiations. The current deal NASCAR has with the teams is set to run at the end of the 2024 season and there are some uncertainties over the sports’ future as the current season has already reached the mid-way.
The major demands teams have been putting forth is to make the charters permanent that would give more financial advantage to the owners and put less restrictions on them. NASCAR isn’t a fan of this proposal recently CEO Jim France has confirmed that as there are no guarantees about the media rights for the future, they won’t make charters permanent.
Now NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is looking forward becoming a Cup team owner, that though France has a point, teams would always look into owning permanent charters over temporary deals. He also asserted that if he becomes an owner, he will want his charters to be permanent.
I see Jim’s point, and I hope that the teams can move forward and agree, but I also think that there’ll be other opportunities down the road to bring that argument back up. The teams are always going to want to make the charters permanent. If I owned the charter, I would certainly be telling you right now that I want my charter to be permanent.Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dale Jr. Download.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. claims teams will never stop asking for it
The JR Motorsports co-owner went on to point out that NASCAR might be bale struck a deal they want in this round of negotiations but that won’t stop teams from asking for permanent charter in the future. He asserted that the demand for it won’t end anytime soon.
When the deal get renegotiated down the road however long this one new agreement will be, the teams will have a chance to argue this again. It’s now like the end of the road in terms of this conversation making the charters forever. It just might not happen this round in terms of the new charter agreement.Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.
Junior is sport with his comments over the charters as the demands for the changes will not stop anytime unless NASCAR can offer them a better alternative. The teams and the sanctioning body has be careful with the negotiations as anything goes south, alongside them it would be the fans that will get hurt by it.
