Dale Earnhardt Jr. pinpoints the new NASCAR provision that will be a ‘difference’ maker in 2025

Going into the 2025 Cup Series season, the sanctioning body made some significant changes to the rule book adding some new provisionals. One of the major changes was the new fastest lap award, which will give the fastest driver from each race one extra points, making it a current version of the leading laps bonus from the past.
Recently NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. shared his feelings about change in his podcast Dale Jr. Download. He loves the new provision and sees it as a great opportunity to push the competitors to be solid on the track. Junior also highlighted how he always says every point matters and the new bonus point makes this claim more important.
I love this! I think these type of little things that drive competition or push our competitors to achieve is really cool. And as we know, and I know the fans joke about this when we say in our broadcast, ‘Every point matters,’ they joke about that because we say it over and over.

He sees this as another opportunity for the racers strive and accumulate. The two times Xfinity Series champion pointed out that the driver can secure more points that will valuable in the playoff by having the fastest laps.
So, this is a point that’s out there for these guys to try to strive, to accumulate. You could win multiple of these and that could really make a difference in seeding for the playoffs or even making the playoffs.

Earlier talking about the point, Dale Jr. pointed out that he sees the new fastest lap award for the Cup, Truck and the Xfinity Series are something really amazing. He added how he misses the most laps led bonus and the leading a lap bonus.
So, if I’m hearing this right, Xfinity will have a fastest lap award in Xfinity Series and Cup and Truck, and whatever driver runs that lap, the very fastest lap of the race – I think it’s amazing. I miss, I do miss most laps led bonus. Even leading a lap, bonus.

The comment from Junior shows he supports the new changer and, sees it as something that could be a difference maker. It would be interesting to see how the points format can make a difference in the 2025 cup series season.
