NASCAR Charter system has been the main topic of discussion in the 2024 season for many factors. The current deal NASCAR has with teams on the charters in running out and the sanctioning body is yet to get a new deal, at the same time multiple charters are reportedly coming to the market in 2025 with many teams interested to buy them.
According to latest rumours a massive downsizing might happen at Stewart Haas Racing, who might sell half or all of their charters. This has caused discussions around how much does a charter actually worth. Though Spire Motorsports bought a charter for $40 million last season, now it seems the value has come down.
NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. has recently revealed how much he believes that charters are actually worth in the current market and amidst the uncertainty over SHR’s future. He reckons the charters are not worth $40 million and pointed out that the true value is in the ballpark of $20 million to $25 million.
I heard that their range is $20M to $30M, for a charter. One of the last ones that sold was for $40M, and so now they’re kind of going through a bit of a reset. I mean, I know one sold for $40M, but from everything that I’ve learned, and all the things that we’ve dug up over the last three or four years, the true value is not near $40M. So yeah, $20M to $25M is more in the ballpark of what I think they should be going for.Dale Earnhardt Jr. said via Dirty Air podcast.
Front Row Motorsports is reportedly the front runner in the current charter market
According to the latest reports, Stewart Haas Racing would most likely sell charters in the 2025 season and another Ford team is looking to acquire it. Front Row Motorsports’, one of the teams on the rise are the front runners to buy those charters.
But it’s not FRM that is active on the market. Some reports suggests that Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing and Pitbull’s Trackhosue Racing, the two new teams on rise, are also looking to into expanding their teams.
Stewart Haas Racing is expected to reveal their plans for the future soon and they can make or break the charter market with it. It would be interesting to see if the charters would get sold or some other type of deals would come up.
