Dale Steyn takes ‘time off’ cricket, pulls out IPL 2021

South Africa speedster Dale Steyn has made himself unavailable for Indian Premier League 2021. Steyn took to Twitter to break the news as he clarified that he is not hanging up his boots yet. The Protea quick featured for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020 and played only three matches. Steyn last played in the Lanka Premier League where he turned up for the Kandy Tuskers.
The tweet read, “Just a short message to let everyone know that I’ve made myself unavailable for RCB at this years IPL, I’m also not planning on playing for another team, just taking some time off during that period. Thank you to RCB for understanding. No I’m not retired.“
Will be playing in other leagues
In another tweet, the 37-year-old adds that he will be playing other leagues around the world during the period. Steyn shares that he is looking for an opportunity to do ‘something’ as he continues to play cricket. Although he didn’t divulge what the break is about, given his inclination towards fishing and surfing, it might not be that hard to guess.
“I will be playing in other leagues, nicely spaced out to give myself a opportunity to do something’s I’ve been excited about as well as continue to play the game I love so much. NO, I’m NOT retired. Here’s to a great 2021,” Steyn tweeted.
While declaring his sabbatical from IPL, Steyn reiterates that he is not retiring from the game he loves. The veteran quick announced his retirement from Test cricket in August 2019 as South Africa’s highest wicket-taker in the format.
