Dallas Mavericks are interested in drafting Bronny James with 58th overall pick to play alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving

Bronny James has been slowly and steadily improving his draft stock. A huge improvement, considering there were questions if he would be drafted at all. Naturally, the Los Angeles Lakers are touted as the most obvious destination. But of late, more and more teams are being linked to the former USC player. The latest is the Dallas Mavericks. News from camps suggests there is a chance James Jr. will play alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving next year.

NBA Insider Marc Stein wrote a piece on his blog The Stein Line to talk about all the latest news that he has been hearing from teams around the league. Among them, was the situation regarding Bronny James.

The Mavericks would have interest in selecting Bronny James with the 58th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, league sources say. But the Mavericks also realize it's extremely unlikely that James will still be available for selection.

Marc Stein believes the Dallas Mavericks will be interested in drafting Bronny James. That is if he is available at No. 58. They know that with the way the 19-year-old’s draft stock is rising, chances are another team will pick him up. But they want to grab the chance if he is available. They need a 3-and-D specialist to come off the bench. Something that has hindered them in the first 3 games of the NBA Finals. Whenever Kyrie Irving or Luka Doncic need rest, Bronny James could plug in. If they want to score, his 3’s and drives will help. If they want to keep the opposition at bay, his defense will do the talking.

Bronny James could ultimately end up with his father

Marc Stein knows a thing or two about how the NBA works and who is playing the cards. In the case of Bronny James, he looked to know quite a bit more than the usual insider.

All current indications suggest that LeBron James' 19-year-old son will be selected earlier in the second round before Dallas makes the last pick in the draft. James' agent Rich Paul, says now that, at this stage, further pre-draft workouts for the former USC guard are unlikely after his recent auditions for the Suns and Lakers.
Marc Stein added

This might possibly suggest that he could end up with the Los Angeles Lakers. Father and son will be the first to play together on the same team in the NBA. The other team he has worked out for, the Phoenix Suns hold the 22nd overall pick, suggesting that it is highly unlikely that they draft him that high. The Suns do not have another draft pick at their disposal until the 2028 Draft.

Making it clear that the only place he will land is where his father LeBron James plies his trade. His insistence on declining workouts also suggests that the Lakers will pick him at No. 55.
