Dallas Mavericks vs. Boston Celtics matchup could be most-exciting NBA Finals in last decade, claims Stephen A. Smith
Stephen A. Smith believes that since both teams have a point to prove, that itself will bring out impressive basketball.
Stephen A. Smith believes the NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics will the most exciting finals in a long time
The Dallas Mavericks are returning to the NBA Finals after 13 years. They beat out the extremely competitive Western Conference on the back of intelligent and stellar play on the court.
On the other hand, the Boston Celtics are returning to the NBA Finals after missing out last year. This led Stephen A. Smith to come out with a bold claim. While speaking on First Take, the longtime ESPN analyst said this about the games that will start on June 6th;
I don't know how much I've looked forward to an NBA Finals, as much as I've looked forward to this one, in the last decade. These finals right here, nobody can definitively say who the hell is gonna win. This is really a toss-up. Cause we gonna find out greatness and those who wanna be great. These finals, ladies and gentlemen, brace yourself. This gonna be special. I can't wait for this one.Stephen A. Smith said
Stephen A. Smith believes the matchup between the two has not been seen in the NBA for quite some time. Therefore, he is excited beyond measure to watch and cover this NBA Finals.
He believes the very narrative surrounding how the Dallas Mavericks reached the NBA Finals is itself movie material. They destroyed everyone’s notion that the duo of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic could not play together and win games.
On the other hand, the Boston Celtics are constantly hearing the noise that their path to the NBA Finals was the easiest that has ever been for a team. This will also want them to prove a point to the league. Therefore, these narratives set up for a brilliant series.
Stephen A. Smith would want Kyrie Irving to take the last shot
In a previous segment of First Take, host Molly Qerim asked Stephen A. Smith who from the Mavericks would he prefer to take the last shot with the game on the line.
For me it's Kyrie. I know Luka has made plenty of big shots, I know he's capable of doing it. But until the other night, Kyrie Irving was 14-0 in close out games. Kyrie is just spectacular offensively. This brother closes, he delivers in big moments. If I had to put the ball in the hands of somebody with money on the line, I'm still gonna go with Kyrie.Stephen A. Smith added
Smith believes that Luka Doncic has tremendous closing potential. But Kyrie Irving has proven over the years that he is one of the best closers in the game.
Therefore, if Smith had to put the ball in one of their hands, it would be the former NBA Champion. Against the Boston Celtics, it could be possible that some games will come down to the line. That is where Irving will shine.
The NBA Finals start on June 6th. It will be interesting to see what the Dallas Mavericks or the Boston Celtics superstars do on the court. The scenario will come full circle if Kyrie Irving were to make the title clinching shot over his former team.
