As it is with every contact sport, Football and injuries are a duo that go hand in hand. What could be a normal play can turn into a serious injury in a snap. Damar Hamlin, whose tackle took Tua Tagovailoa out of play, broke his silence after the tragic morning.

Tagovailoa, the Dolphins’ quarterback, made a successful run to gain a first down near the end of the third quarter. As Hamlin charged in for a tackle, Tagovailoa lowered his head. A chilling silence fell over the stadium as Tagovailoa displayed a disconcerting fencing posture, a telltale sign of a brutal concussion.

Hamlin is no stranger to field injuries. The player had previously gone into cardiac arrest during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022. He has since worked his way back into the field. An incident like today’s can flush those shut-down memories into the forefront.

It’s trauma. It will always be there. I’m able to not be affected by it because of the work that I’ve done. I went through trauma therapy. I have a psychologist I talk to. It’s allowed me to push my mind forward, push my process forward.

Hamlin added that he went through the hard stuff last year. He said that even getting the pads on was initially a task he had to tackle. Furthermore, he wished the quarterback a speedy recovery and pledged his company to fight the adverse time.

A third concussion for Tua Tagovailoa sparks retirement calls

The player has taken at least three concussions during his five-year NFL career, but the cumulative impact of multiple head blows is likely far greater. Following his recent concussion, it’s prudent to consider retirement to safeguard his long-term health.

There have been multiple calls from fans critics and big names in the industry asking him to consider a retirement for his and his loved ones’ benefit.

Pro football HOF Tony Gonzalez said that it disheartens him to see the quarterback in this condition. He said that he only got paid recently and he’s a good player. However, Gonzalez advised the player to consider retirement.

If I'm him, at this point, I'm seriously considering retiring from football. If that was my son, I would be like, 'It might be time.' This stuff is not what you want to play around with.

Another analyst on the show, Richard Sherman hoped that Tagovailoa would get to choose what he wanted. Nevertheless, he noted his stance would be that he retire and go home.
