The WWE Universe has noticed a change in Damian Priest‘s character since winning the title at WrestleMania XL. For the most part of his reign, he has defended his title like a true champion without The Judgment Day’s help. It seemed like he was fully embodying his character through his facial expressions. A similar incident happened at a live event when he broke character to help his rival.

During the WWE SuperShow Summer Tour in Mexico, Damian Priest defended his World Heavyweight title against Jey Uso. The match was entertaining, as The Yeet Master forced the referee and the champ himself to do the Yeet for the fans. Although the 41-year-old star ended up doing the Yeet pose, he immediately attacked him after that.

After an intense match, Priest ultimately retained his title by hitting the 38-year-old star with South of Heaven. However, what surprised the crowd in attendance was that the champ helped The Main Event get back on his feet afterward. Moreover, he even did the Yeet taunt to acknowledge Jey. As a result, the WWE Universe felt that the The Judgment Day member would soon turn babyface.

Despite being rivals in the ring, the relationship between the two stars has always been healthy. Priest admitted that Jey had become one of his “guys” and even expressed a desire to invite him into the group. He will defend his world title against the King of the Ring tournament winner, Gunther, at SummerSlam on August 3.

John Bradshaw Layfield praised Damian Priest and Gunther for their hard work

Damian Priest and Gunther have proven to the WWE Universe that with hard work, one can accomplish anything. In their earlier years, they struggled a lot because their bodies were not in shape, but after years of sheer hard work, both have become the company’s top stars. WWE Hall of Famer JBL shared the same sentiment and sent a heartfelt message to both on social media.

The longest-reigning WWE champ in the history of SmackDown TV took to social media and sent a message ahead of their match at SummerSlam. He stated that he couldn’t help but admire them, as both have very talented personalities. However, what impressed him the most was their journey to reach this stage after a lot of hard work. Although the former APA member couldn’t decide whom to root for, he said he was supporting both of them.

How can you not love these two guys? Both terrific talents, and good guys. But, they are here because of hard work and talent. This is remarkable. These two deserve this like few I have ever seen. I’m pulling for you both guys!
