Damian Priest thanks Paul Heyman for improving his promo game (via WWE)
Damian Priest has come a long way in his wrestling career since his debut on the main roster. The Puerto Rican was never thought of as more than a midcarder. However, he has improved massively and even won the World Heavyweight Championship. While he was always stellar in the ring, there were some weaknesses regarding his character and promo work, which he has now overcome thanks to Paul Heyman.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Priest discussed the work that he had put in to make his promos feel seamless and effortless. The Archer of Infamy said that whenever he had to deliver a promo, he would go talk to someone, specifically Paul Heyman.
The Wiseman always reminds Damian Priest where he is from (New York) and tells him to talk fluently and how the people of that place talk. This is something that the 41-year-old always keeps in mind while cutting a promo.
He just constantly reminds me of like, ‘Where are you from? You from New York?’ and I’m like, yeah. And he goes, ‘Why don’t you talk New York?’

Furthermore, Heyman told him not to force himself to remember his dialogues. This simply leads to him getting lost. Heyman told Priest to truly feel what one is going to say and react accordingly to that.
Hearing these things repeatedly has resulted in him not having to worry about a script and simply talking and reacting to the situation. Working on these skills largely elevated the Raw Superstar’s stock in the company, and led to him cashing in at WrestleMania XL to become World Heavyweight Champion.

Paul Heyman is greatly appreciated for his role as the Wiseman of the Bloodline. He aligned himself with Roman Reigns in 2020 and was with the Samoan faction until he was kicked out in 2024. However, before being an advisor to the Tribal Chief, he was known as the Advocate for The Beast, Brock Lesnar. The Hall of Famer has played the role of an advocate for many other people behind the scenes as well.
Speaking on Fightful’s In The Weeds, Riddick Moss talked about the Hall of Famer’s role in his career in WWE. Both Brock Lesnar and Heyman were great to him and advocated for him in WWE. They brought him under their wing and taught him a lot about the wrestling business.
They brought me under their wing, they let me sit in on discussions where they were talking about the business and how you should approach things. I learned so much from those guys. They were advocates.

Moss gave a lot of credit to Heyman for bringing him up to the main roster. He was directionless in NXT, and the Hall of Famer decided to give him a shot in the big leagues. He said that he owed the 58-year-old for his entire run in WWE.
