The latest episode of SmackDown featured multiple segments and dark matches after the show went off the air. One such match that took place following the show was Damian Priest trying to regain his World Heavyweight Championship from Gunther after losing it earlier in the summer.
The two superstars made their entrances and squared off in the ring. After an intense brawl, Gunther was able to get a decisive pinfall victory over his opponent and retain the World Heavyweight Championship. The Austrian exited the arena with his belt and left his opponent battered in the middle of the ring.
Fans had a lot of empathy for the Archer of Infamy, who had suffered his fourth loss against the World Heavyweight Champion in a month. The first of these losses came at SummerSlam, with the other losses taking place at house shows or dark matches. Damian Priest received a huge applause and a standing ovation from the crowd, and he bowed to show respect and thank the fans for their love.
The Ring General had already started targeting the Puerto Rican in May. The 36-year-old won the King of the Ring tournament in May to earn a title shot at the World Heavyweight Championship, held by Priest at the time. The two finally clashed at SummerSlam, and The Ring General was able to win the World Heavyweight Championship after Finn Balor betrayed his stablemate.
The Undertaker and Kane shower massive praise on Gunther
The Brothers of Destruction recently united on the Six Feet Under podcast. They talked about some of the biggest names of professional wrestling of the past and present. One of the names that got a lot of attention from the two wrestling legends was Gunther. The Undertaker has already showered plenty of praise upon the European, and this time was no exception.
Kane opined that The Ring General was a ‘big raw-boned dude’ who had plenty of talent. The Undertaker, known as one of the best strikers of all time, said that he would have to change up his offense if he ever went up against the World Heavyweight Champion. While the Deadman could land one or two hits, he would surely get outclassed soon.
I like him. I think he’s kind of a throwback to a different era. As painful as those chops look… you think he’s beating you down and which he is without doing a bunch of aerial attacks. The Undertaker on Six Feet Under
The two brothers discussed that the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time was a throwback to the old era. The Raw superstar did not perform any fancy aerial moves. Rather, he ground his opponent down slowly and methodically.
