Ever since the NFL released its yearly Top 100 Players list last week, intense debates have been ongoing regarding questionable rankings of the players on the internet. This Tuesday, former Super Bowl champion Damien Woody joined the list, arguing that the list lost its credibility after an elite player such as Patrick Mahomes was placed at the top spot.
During the recent episode of the ESPN First Take, Woody was part of the discussion about the recent NFL rankings which were based on the players’ votes, where he expressed his frustration seeing the Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback placed at the fourth rank instead of the top.
The reason why Woody questioned the credibility of the list is that Mahomes, who is two-time NFL MVP, reigning Super Bowl MVP, three Super Bowl champion, and considered the face of the NFL was placed below the rankings of star running back Christian McCaffrey, Lamar Jackson and Tyreek Hill.
You lose all credibility when number 15 [Patrick Mahomes] isn't at number one. Patrick Mahomes is the most dominant player in the National Football League [and] he is sitting at number four. The guy who’s trying to do something that no other player has ever done… trying to win three Super Bowl rings in a row. And he is sitting at number four.Damien Woody said in utter disbelief over Mahomes’ rank
Woody spoke in reference to the elite quarterback’s three-peat goal for the Super Bowl for the coming 2024 season after just winning his two consecutive Vince Lombardi trophies. He believes Mahomes deserves better appreciation and credit for his talent and hard work.
Tavia Hunt defends Patrick Mahomes amid NFL disrespect
Prior to Woody, Tavia Hunt, wife of the Chiefs’ owner Clark Hunt, also came in support of her superstar quarterback, who has brought immense glory to Kansas City and made it an NFL dynasty. She shared an Instagram post to shower high praise and support for Mahomes, who is incomparable for her husband’s team.

Patrick Mahomes may end up being the greatest player to ever play football when he's done. Yet every year, he gets unsolicited motivation in disrespect. First, the Raiders Mahomes Kermit puppets. Now, players rank him No. 4 in #NFLTOP100 of league he has dominated. Good Luck, NFL.Tavia Hunt wrote
Many speculate the reason for the low ranking of Mahomes was because of his team’s struggle last season, which affected his rankings as well. However, the Chiefs have dealt with their 2023 problem and acquired strong weapons on the offense, aiming for the ultimate glory.
