The first week of the NFL 2025-26 season has been quite competitive and interesting, with a lot of exciting storylines to pick from. The Cincinnati Bengals secured a rare Week 1 win, while the Kansas City Chiefs finished the week at the bottom of the AFC West for the first time in while. And the unexpected results don’t end there.
The Buffalo Bills‘ comeback in the fourth quarter with a 15-point deficit was one of the highlights of the week. The Bills, who played the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 at Highmark Stadium, defeated them 41-40 in a high-scoring thriller. Josh Allen was in a league of his own, throwing for 394 yards and two touchdowns to Dalton Kincaid and Keon Coleman while also rushing for two on his own.
The Ravens, led by a monstrous offense in quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Derrick Henry, quickly found momentum and held on to it. The Ravens’ efforts were not enough to stop Allen and the Bills from working a comeback magic and rally 16 points in the last four minutes to defeat them. The Internet rightfully went bonkers in the aftermath of the game.
The victory has the media applaud the franchise and the quarterback. Emmanuel Acho claimed that the game proved that Allen is a greater quarterback than Jackson. Meanwhile, a former Super Bowl champion and offensive lineman claimed something far more bolder.
In the latest episode of Get Up by ESPN, Damien Woody feels that the Buffalo Bills have established themselves as prime Super Bowl contenders. Woody pointed to their schedule as his primary reason for his argument.
The road to [the Super Bowl] to me goes through Buffalo. If you look at Buffalo’s schedule, they play in the AFC East, they’ve dominated that division now for the past few years, they only go out of the eastern timezone one time… Everything is literally set up for the Buffalo Bills.

The Buffalo Bills have the fifth-easiest schedule in the season, according to the Sharp Football Analysis. They don’t face a single team that had qualified for the playoffs up until the bye week. In 17 games, the Bills will play five teams that made it to the playoffs last year: Kansas City Chiefs (Week 9), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Week 11), Houston Texans (Week 12), Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 13), and Philadelphia Eagles (Week 17).
The Bills still haven’t convinced everyone
The victory, although won praises all along the corners of social media and traditional media analysts, hasn’t convinced everyone. Dave Portnoy, who recently signed a deal with FOX Sports, wasn’t pleased with the Buffalo Bills performance in the first game.

Portnoy, who’s also the founder of Barstool Sports, called the Bills’ win a ‘fluke’. He also considers the Ravens far superior than the Bills, who actually won the game.
They looked far superior to me. I would say that is a fluke win for the Bills, if you account for the fact they got a tipped touchdown on fourth down. Game’s over if they don’t get that, just a one in a million play.

Portnoy pointed to the fumble by Derrick Henry that cost the Ravens. Henry, as one of the top rushing TD leaders, doesn’t cause errors often. Looking ahead to their next matchup, Portnoy admitted he’d rather be in the Ravens’ shoes going into Week 2.
His remarks highlighted the wider discussion about the AFC’s competitive landscape.
