The Pittsburgh Steelers have continued their tradition of being one-and-done in the playoffs. It has been a rough ride for the team as Mike Tomlin has now lost six consecutive playoff games. After the team’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round, questions have begun to surface around the team’s shot to make a Super Bowl run with Tomlin as the HC.

The man continues to be one of the best Head Coaches in the NFL. The mere fact that he keeps achieving winning seasons and makes the most out of the cards he is dealt with is a testament to his greatness, but he continues to fall short of returning to the Super Bowl. However, one NFL veteran is certain that Mike Tomlin‘s time is up with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Damien Woody believes the Steelers must move on from Coach Tomlin. He explained the reasoning behind his take on Get Up.

I think it’s time for the Pittsburgh Steelers to move on from Mike Tomlin. I don’t say that lightly because I love Mike Tomlin. I love what he stands for. I love the mentality that he brings, but one of the things he says is ‘The standard is the standard.’ What is the standard in Pittsburgh right now?

The veteran pointed out the HC’s disturbing record of having lost ten playoff games since he won the Super Bowl last in 2008.

Mike Tomlin has been the Steelers HC since 2007

Despite having recorded a winning season in all 18 years of his being Pittsburgh’s Head Coach, in recent years, Mike Tomlin has struggled to take the team beyond the first round of the playoffs. Damien Woody iterated that the standard for the Steelers is to win Super Bowls and not sneak into the playoffs by luck.

He cited Andy Reid as an example of a good Head Coach who achieved success elsewhere after enjoying a good run with the Eagles.

Understand that sometimes things run its course. We’ve seen it with Andy Reid in Philadelphia. Andy Reid was tremendous. He took multiple quarterbacks to the Super Bowl and had all types of success with the Philadelphia Eagles, but it ran its course and he moved on…

Since Reid took over the job in Kansas City, he has achieved immense success, won multiple Super Bowls, and is on course to achieve a third consecutive Lombardi win.

Maybe it is time that Tomlin gets a change of scenario so that he, too, can do things differently and get back to the Super Bowl. There are plenty of opportunities available this off season.

The Bears would be an interesting fit for him as they have the right pieces but not the guidance. Apart from this, the Saints and Jaguars are ideal destinations that could use him.
