British tennis star believes Andy Murray’s ‘level of analysis’ will be fundamental for Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open

The Australian Open 2025 is set to bring many highlights before the first ball is struck. One of them is the reunion of Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic. The Scottish legend was announced as the Serb’s new coach at the end of November 2024.
Looking deeper into this reunion, Dan Evans, who partnered with Murray in his last-ever tournament at the Paris Olympics, expressed great delight with this appointment. Evans believes that his countryman’s level of analysis will be crucial for Djokovic’s success at Melbourne Park.
Like everyone else, I was delighted to hear that Andy Murray was going to coach Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open. It makes sense for Andy: three weeks in the Australian summer, when the weather here is not conducive to golf! And Novak is not stupid, he didn’t pick him just to make headlines – Andy will be a great coach.

Djokovic will be aiming to win his 11th Australian Open title and 25th Grand Slam title overall. Last year, his Australian Open reign ended at the hands of Jannik Sinner.
Talking to Andy about the game is totally different to talking to anyone else: his level of tactical insight and his attitude. I remember before a Davis Cup match, a few of us were talking about the match and we said, ‘Yeah, Andy is going to beat this guy’. Andy got wind of it and wasn’t happy. He said, ‘No, this guy is dangerous and this is how he can beat me’, and then he broke down his opponent’s game. He will show that level of analysis against every opponent Novak faces.’

This was the pattern for the entire season, as Djokovic failed to win any Grand Slams throughout the year. This was only the second time such a scenario occurred since 2011.

A few months ago, no one could have predicted this scene. Novak Djokovic and his new coach, Andy Murray, are now set to be a big highlight of the Australian Open. They practiced together in Melbourne ahead of the tournament starting on Sunday (January 7th).
Djokovic is chasing his 11th Australian Open title and a historic 25th Grand Slam. In November, he surprised fans by adding Murray, a long-time rival and close friend, to his team. Murray, also 37, retired after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in August. The three-time Grand Slam champion has now taken up coaching for the first time.
Djokovic teamed up with Murray during the off-season after parting ways with his long-time coach, Goran Ivanisevic. Recent footage showed Murray carefully watching Djokovic practice at Melbourne Park.
