I've thought about it long and hard. I'll have to think a little more. I love competing for my country, I've loved every minute of it but sometimes you've got to know when to leave. It will be a difficult decision but sometimes it's nice to give somebody else the opportunity and watch from afar.
Dan Evans told BBC Sport

Overall, Evans has played 28 Davis Cup ties for Great Britain. He was a substitute when they won their last title in 2015.

Despite being backed by a boisterous 15,000-strong crowd at Manchester Arena, Evans lost the first set in just 25 minutes. He fought back in the second set but failed to make the most of two break points at 4-4. Shapovalov did not make any mistakes thereafter, sealing the win in straight sets.

After the match, Shapovalov said that he was happy to beat a ‘tricky opponent’ like Evans. He also opined that his first set against the home favorite was one of the best performances in his career.

Very happy to get the win, he’s a tricky opponent and he fights so well. He was clawing his way back in the second set. I haven’t played a cleaner first set than that in my life so super happy to get the win. Sometimes 6-0 is the worst lead in tennis. You can’t improve from that first set. It’s tough to keep the momentum going and keep the focus up.

Evans is expected to return alongside Neal Skupski in the men’s doubles to complete the tie, while British No. 1 Jack Draper will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the other singles match.
