The New England Patriots overcame an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter of the Week 16 game against the Baltimore Ravens and secured their first postseason berth since 2021. The Patriots improved to 12-4 following a 28-24 win at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.

The Patriots quarterback, Drake Maye, threw two touchdowns and completed 31 of his 44 passes for 380 yards through the air. The 23-year-old UNC alum also rushed 10 times for 25 yards, including a 16-yard run. The young quarterback has the highest completion rate, beating out the likes of Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, and Patrick Mahomes. He ranks fourth in passing yards and tied at fifth in passing touchdowns.

The resurgence of the Patriots under Maye has put him as a frontrunner for the Most Valuable Player award. As the regular season inches closer to a finish, Maye has established himself as one of the most significant players of the year. The quarterback now has the support of a former NFL quarterback and currently famed ESPN analyst, Dan Orlovsky.

Orlovsky ranked Maye as the second-best player in the league right now. According to Orlovsky, Stafford, who has thrown for 4,179 yards and 40 touchdowns in 15 games, is the MVP leader. However, he pointed out a certain aspect in which Maye beats out the likes of Allen and even Stafford.

I think Drake Maye right now, in the pocket, is the best quarterback in football. When it comes to just moving within the pocket, because he’s got this great understanding and feel of.

The same aspect was quite visible in the win against the Ravens. He was able to step up in the tense moments and came through when barely 12 minutes and 50 seconds remained, with 12-of-14 passes being completed, tossing two touchdowns, and managing to avoid being sacked. Maye was calm as a cucumber while being as effective as a surgeon’s scalpel.

The New England Patriots look to seal a conference seed following victory over the Ravens

The New England Patriots boosted their chances of finishing the regular season as the conference top seed following their late victory against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16. The Patriots also had some help from the Sunshine State.

The Jacksonville Jaguars snapped the Denver Broncos’ 11-game winning streak on Sunday, which has positively impacted the Patriots’ odds. Trevor Lawrence completed 23-of-36 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns to secure a 34-20 victory over the Broncos.

The Broncos and the Patriots are both 12-3, with the former holding the seed advantage currently. The Men in Orange have a better record against the common opponents; the Patriots were defeated by the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1, while the Broncos shut them down twice.

As Week 16’s festivities have come to an end with the Indianapolis Colts being speechless against the San Francisco 49ers’ offense, all eyes are on the intensified conference seed battle. In order to win a first-round bye and home advantage throughout the postseason, the Patriots need to win out and hope the Broncos lose at least one game.

The Patriots and the Broncos both have games against their divisional opponents. The former face the New York Jets in Week 17 and close out against the Miami Dolphins in Week 18. The Jets (3-12) are one of the worst teams in the league, tied with four others for the second-worst record this season. The Dolphins are no better with locker room troubles and quarterback inconsistencies. On paper, winning both games is very doable.

On the other hand, the Denver Broncos face a stiff challenge in Week 18. The Broncos play the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 17, where winning won’t be much of a trouble as the Chiefs are without their first and second options at quarterback. However, the Los Angeles Chargers are a troublesome opponent, and the Patriots would hope that the West Coast team would defeat the Broncos to claim the division title (AFC West) for themselves.
