The Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 postseason hopes have ended with their elimination from playoff contention. This campaign has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride for the franchise, ultimately highlighting numerous lessons that will become evident in the upcoming offseason, revealing whether the team has truly learned from its experience.
The first and foremost dilemma facing America’s team is the head coach situation. However, after hearing owner Jerry Jones‘ overboard words, it appears Mike McCarthy would have a long run before bidding farewell to the Cowboys. But whether it’s in the best interest of the team is yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, Dan Orlovsky didn’t mince his words asserting that Jones’ Cowboys would remain a mediocre team under head coach McCarthy–whom he firmly believes the franchise would extend. In the recent episode of ESPN’s Get Up, the former NFL quarterback gave his blunt analysis on the Cowboys potentially bringing McCarthy back next season.
Great! The organization loves mediocrity. So awesome! I don’t know. They are an average organization that doesn’t win when it matters the most. They are 4-12 in the playoffs since 1998– that’s what six coaches. I’ll say this if you bring out Mike McCarthy… you are not gonna win the championship with this offense. You just won’t.
Dan Orlovsky said when asked about his thoughts on McCarthy’s potential comeback next season
"The organization loves mediocrity. … They are an average organization that doesn't win when it matters the most."

But there appears to be some hope left under McCarthy’s leadership as the ESPN analyst emphasized. He suggested the Cowboys change their offense scheme to create an advantage for the players as the top contending teams do going forward.
Jerry Jones lauds Mike McCarthy’s coaching after Cowboys upset Buccaneers
The Cowboys may be eliminated from the playoffs race, but they haven’t rested their fighting spirit, which was well-resonated in the two straight victories. The Week 16 victory seemed to have impressed the General Manager, who showered high praise on head coach McCarthy post-game.

I’m real proud. Mike McCarthy, he just won’t let them not think that they’re playing for the Super Bowl out there. He won’t let them do it. I’m proud of that. I’m proud of the coach.
Jerry Jones said via The Athletic’s Jon Machota
While he acknowledged the remarkable play by the entire team, he credited their head coach for the right playcalling and impressive feat against a winning team of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as it reflected that they intend to conclude the season on a positive note.
