The Baltimore Ravens suffered their fifth loss of the season on Sunday night, taking a hit to divisional title hopes. The Ravens are now ranked second in the AFC South behind the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In one of the most anticipated matchups, the Philadelphia Eagles squandered the Ravens 19-24. In the pursuit of victory, the Eagles also handed reigning MVP Lamar Jackson his second career loss to an NFC team. The last NFC team to defeat Jackson was the New York Giants, then led by Daniel Jones in 2021. The Ravens’ QB’s chances to retain his MVP position have also dropped massively.

In an appearance on “Get Up” from ESPN, Dan Orlovsky narrated the facts while claiming that Jackson has written himself off the MVP race. Orlovsky admitted Justin Tucker had his mistakes costing the game. Nevertheless, he expressed that Jackson should not rely upon Tucker or field goals.

Lamar played poorly and that’s for the second time in three weeks. Egregious misses. I thought some egregious misses. I thought he didn’t see the field clearly and then tried to do too much… I think Lamar, in the last three weeks, has played himself out of the lead of the MVP conversation. Again, egregious misses, forced throws, I think he was running around trying to do too much. And he was trying to win the game in one play. I think that’s what hurt their offense.

Dan Orlovsky remarked

As it stands, Jackson has slipped to fourth in MVP behind Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley, and Jared Goff, following the Ravens’ two losses in their last three games. Meanwhile, Allen’s Bills remain unbeaten since October 6, and both Barkley’s Eagles and Goff’s Lions have maintained perfect records since September.

In the coming weeks, Jackson will square off against the Giants, Steelers, Texans, and Browns. It would be a high climb for the quarterback if he needs to return to the top spot.

The Ravens are currently holding the second wildcard spot in the AFC. They are a win away from registering their third consecutive winning season. They have made five postseasons in the last six seasons and there remains a very low chance of them potentially missing out on a spot. However, keeping a momentum alive matters.

Speaking to the media, Lamar Jackson was as animated as anytime and he used a couple of expletives, banged on the podium once or twice. Jackson also shared that his mother cussed him out after the loss, advising the player to run more.

The Florida native admitted being mad about the result but expressed that he is pumped for the upcoming duel. He noted that he wants the bye week to get on.

We’re going to get after it. I’m not going to lie to you. We’re going to get after it. I can’t wait for this bye (week) to get on. We have the (New York) Giants coming up. I’m ready to go. I’m just ready to go.

Earlier this week, Ryan Clark had noted that the game against the Eagles is an opportunity for Jackson to prove his worth. The fortunes haven’t favored the seventh-year quarterback whose worth is criticized every now and then, citing his postseason failures. Whether Jackson can stage a comeback to change his current circumstances remains to be seen.
