The New York Jets are 0-6 to the season, becoming the fourth team in the National Football League’s history to start with that record.

The New York Jets are inching towards another year of a playoff miss with 6 losses in a row to start the season. The Jets haven’t made playoffs in the past fourteen seasons, tied for the longest active playoff drought in North American sports with the NHL franchise Buffalo Sabres.

Garrett Wilson is one of the lone highlights of the Jets’ abysmal record in the past few seasons. The 25-year-old wideout was drafted by the New York Jets in 2022 as a first-round pick and has remained with them since. He has registered more than 1000 receiving yards in all of his seasons, and even played in all of their games as well. However, many believe that Wilson could make more impact for another team with a better quarterback.

The Jets have been a revolving door of inconsistent quarterbacks, including Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, and now Justin Fields. Fields registered just 45 passing yards and threw just nine completions in their last game against the Denver Broncos. The recent loss and the persistence to stay with Fields have prompted a former quarterback and a sportscaster to advise the young wideout to force a trade away from East Rutherford.

Dan Orlovsky, speaking on ESPN, ripped apart the Jets’ latest offensive performance. He highlighted the fact that Garrett Wilson was consistently open, yet he wasn’t given any opportunities. He had just 3 receptions for 13 yards. Given all of this, Orlovsky advised him to hunt for green pastures.

I think they have to entertain trading everybody of value. Absolutely, because you’re 0-6. It doesn’t look promising. I just don’t know when the player says it. If you’re Garrett Wilson, you’ve done [four] years of this now.

Beyond the offensive output, Garrett Wilson has injury concerns as well. He sustained an injury in the game against the Broncos, and the recent MRI revealed that the wideout has hyperextended his knee and is expected to miss a few weeks.

The New York Jets are so bad that the Carolina Panthers are road favorites for the first time since 2021

According to Monday’s odds from DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM, the Carolina Panthers enter the matchup as 1.5-point favorites against the New York Jets in their Week 7 duel. Both franchises share the dubious distinction of owning the league’s two longest active streaks without a winning season. Should the line hold or shift further in Carolina’s favor, it would mark the first time the Panthers have been road favorites since Week 12 of the 2021 season.

This edge could grow further following reports that Garrett Wilson is expected to miss time due to a knee injury. The edge wasn’t in the Panthers’ favor when the odds opened. New York initially opened as slight 1.5-point favorites before the betting momentum shifted decisively toward Carolina. If the Jets remained favored, they would have been the first 0–6 team to open with winning odds since the 2013 New York Giants.

Carolina’s recent success has been built on a balanced approach. Running back Rico Dowdle has led the charge offensively, amassing an impressive 389 rushing yards over the past two games. On the defensive end, the Panthers have been equally disciplined, holding the high-powered Dolphins and Cowboys to a combined 50 rushing yards during their back-to-back wins.

Historically, the matchup also tilts in Carolina’s favor. The Panthers hold a 5–3 all-time record against the Jets and have won three straight in the series, with New York’s last victory coming way back in 2009.
