Dan Orlovsky believes that the Giants owner John Mara made the wrong choice by firing Brian Daboll and should have given him an extra year with quarterback Jaxson Dart to show results.

Not everyone agreed with the New York Giants’ firing Brian Daboll midway through the season. One of them is Dan Orlovsky.

Speaking on the Monday edition of “NFL Live” from Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Orlovsky questioned Giants owner John Mara‘s timing of firing Daboll. This might negatively impact rookie Jaxson Dart‘s growth as an NFL quarterback.

This is a mistake by the New York Giants. It was clear that the quarterback and the head coach had something going together, at least production, performance, and hope.

Orlovsky argued that Daboll and Dart should not be blamed for the Giants’ recent fourth-quarter collapses. For the uninitiated, the Giants lost three straight games against the Cowboys, Broncos, and Bears despite 92.3%, 99.3%, and 96.9% chance of winning in the 4th quarter. The odds of that happening were 1 out of 60,000.

The former NFL quarterback turned ESPN analyst commended Dart for carrying the offense despite injuries to key players, Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo. He followed it up with a sharp jab at the defense.

The reality is, this defense, that has got a gazillion dollars or early draft picks, 10 point four quarter leads, for different times this year, and they couldn’t find ways to secure the lead either. So as much as we wanna sit there and say, Daboll didn’t get it done… A lot of high-priced defensive talent didn’t get it done as well.

Orlovsky ended his argument with parting words for the Giants’ ownership.

I think that Brian Daboll and Jaxson Dart should have stayed together for at least one more year.

Orlovsky quipped

The Giants sit at 2-7 after nine games and may be forced to play without Dart for a few fixtures. Dart was put on the concussion protocol after he took a blow to the head in the latest loss against the Bears. The Sporting News revealed that Dart is likely to miss the Green Bay Packers game next week.

Who does Dan Orlovsky want the Giants to hire after the firing of Brian Daboll?

In a surprising approach, the Giants have stayed silent on naming the next head coach. Orlovsky suggested a name that should intrigue the Giants’ front office.

He nominated Kevin Stefanski as the next head coach of the G-Men.

The number one name that I would pay attention to if I was the Giants is what happens in Cleveland with [Kevin] Stefanski. If I could hand-pick a guy, it would be Stefanski. He’s an outstanding coach, a two-time Coach of the Year. I understand people in Cleveland are like, ‘This guy can’t coach.’ There’s a lot of empirical data that would say otherwise.

Dan Orlovsky revealed

Orlovsky noted that the Giants had thrived under hard-nosed coaches like Bill Parcells and Tom Coughlin. Stefanski may not be in the same stratosphere as the Super Bowl winners, but Orlovsky believes the 43-year-old can make a difference in New York.

I would go [with] Kevin Stefanski. I would go [with] Jesse Minter, the defensive coordinator of the [Los Angeles] Chargers. I would entertain Jon Gruden and maybe Matt Nagy, but I would pay attention to see what’s going on in Cleveland.

Daboll’s time in New York kicked off strong, ending 2022 with a 9-7-1 record and a trip to the divisional round of the playoffs. But he couldn’t match that success in the seasons that followed, ultimately departing the Giants with a 20-40-1 record overall.
