The Dallas Cowboys soap opera has continued into the preseason without a resolution after the first week of the pregame action. The Cowboys are yet to sign an extension with one of their star linebackers, Micah Parsons, amid tensions with his agent and miscommunication between the player and the management.

Micah Parsons has evolved into a defensive weapon in four seasons with four Pro Bowl selections, two All-Pro First Team mentions, and an NFL DROY in 2021. He has been the cornerstone of their defensive scheme with 256 tackles and 52.5 sacks from 63 starts, including a rookie record for most sacks.

The dance around his contract has made Dallas one of the most covered teams in the league this offseason. After all, they are the most valued sports team in the world, despite not even making the final game, i.e., the Super Bowl, in the past three decades. Chris Broussard had earlier claimed that this weird dance of will-do-wont-do is an attempt to create drama and stay atop headlines.

ESPN analyst and former Detroit Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky had a different take. Orlovsky noted that there’s a remnant of personal dislike between the player and the owner, Jerry Jones. In a recent Get Up segment, he iterated his take on the issue.

Do they want to get a deal done with Micah Parsons? I don’t think they like him. I don’t think they like each other. I could be dead-wrong, I just don’t. There’s something that feels like he doesn’t like them, they don’t like him. It is a personal dislike that isn’t attached to just money.

Dan Orlovsky noted

It might be the basic take on the whole situation, but it tracks. It has been almost ten days since Parsons requested a trade and lashed out at the management for the lack of personal respect and dragging his name in the media. However, there has been no movement ever since.

Insiders and analysts across the industry believe that Micah Parsons might leave

At this juncture, the Dallas Cowboys have to take an urgent yet calculated decision. As Jerry Jones is hounded by “pay him” calls at the field and elsewhere, he has to figure out a way to deal with his biggest problem since the 90s.

However, most insiders and analysts do not believe that this contract extension will become a reality. Mike Florio of PFT wrote that he was told that the ship has sailed since Parsons will reject any deal from the management as he no longer wants to stay with the team.

Jordan Schultz argued that the management trying to ditch David Mulugheta, Parsons’ agent, borderlines on pure arrogance.

The fact that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys believe they can negotiate a 9-figure extension with Micah Parsons without involving his agent says everything about the current state of the franchise. This entire situation is laughable from the Dallas side. It could’ve — and should’ve — been avoided. But instead, the Cowboys operated with pure arrogance, foolishness, and stubbornness.

Jordan Schultz posted

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report wrote that the Cowboys should consider moving Parsons and strategize from that front. He noted that not being Super Bowl contenders despite three highly-paid players with a projected 130 million dollars a year would be a shame. In the same light, Dan Orlovsky had commented that the Cowboys are very unserious as they have a 50 million dollar cap hit from just their quarterback, Dak Prescott.

All said and done, this whole dance doesn’t feel like a franchise that’s playing in the NFC Conference game coming January.
