Coming off an impressive run for the Super Bowl in 2023, the San Francisco 49ers are among the favorites to win the Vince Lombardi trophy this season. However, that dream seems to be fading away because of the uncertainty surrounding Brandon Aiyuk’s future in the team.
There have been several rumors swirling on the internet, some suggesting that trade deals are taking place, whereas others claim the contract negotiations are turning out well for the wide receiver. While talking on the subject during ESPN’s NFL Live, sports analyst Dan Orlovsky placed his argument on how Aiyuk’s departure would impact Kyle Shanahan’s star-studded offense.
He argued that besides the athleticism, what made the 49ers’ offense successful was pushing the ball downfield. Orlovsky credited the wide receiver No. 2, who contributed more than WR No. 1, for elevating the offensive line.
You take Brandon Aiyuk out, that's going to minimize a little bit of Brock Purdy's willingness [to throw the ball downfield]. The absence of Brandon Aiyuk almost takes away that elevation of Kyle Shanahan's offense under Brock Purdy and brings it a little bit back down to earth. With those two guys on the field it's, in many ways, felt essentially unstoppable.Dan Orlovsky said
The Second-team All-Pro is coming off a remarkable season with 1,342 yards for 75 receptions along with seven touchdowns and an average rating of 17.9. Meanwhile, receiver No. 1 posted 892 yards for 60 receptions, seven touchdowns, and a 14.9 passer rating.
Brandon Aiyuk not on the trading block despite speculation
Amid the vivid speculations about the trade deals, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that the Niners aren’t ready to part ways with Aiyuk. They reportedly made several offers to him, but due to some late adjustments, the deal hasn’t been on the table yet.
He’s had a great run and they want to get the deal done. They’ve made him multiple offers to try and keep him, but for whatever reason that deal hasn’t gotten done, and that has allowed other teams to enter the fray with trade conversations.Adam Schefter reported
The star wideout is seeking one of the highest-paid receivers deals, if not the biggest. However, his team has repeatedly offered him below the standard he keeps for himself and that’s the reason why, despite having an offer on the table, he rejected it in search of earning a deserving deal.
