In Short
  • Dan Orlovsky faces backlash on social media for promoting Ty Simpson over consensus No. 1 prospect Fernando Mendoza.
  • Critics accuse Orlovsky of lacking integrity due to his ties with both quarterbacks' agent.
  • Robert Griffin III challenges Orlovsky's analysis, highlighting flaws in his reasoning for favoring Simpson.

There are times when fans understand why ESPN handed Dan Orlovsky a contract extension recently, after the former Detroit Lions quarterback established himself as one of the better football analysts on the network.

The 42-year-old may have played his entire career as a backup, but those twelve seasons in the NFL and four before that in college have armed Orlovsky with the knowledge to dissect the game.

That experience also comes in handy when he has to analyse draft prospects every offseason. But his recent findings about two top quarterback prospects have left the internet shaking its head.

On one hand, it is evident that Fernando Mendoza is the de facto No. 1 prospect and is likely going to the quarterback-needy Las Vegas Raiders.

However, the father of four has touted Alabama signal-caller Ty Simpson as the better prospect, which has led many to question his integrity, as both share the same agent.

But then, he appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and shot back at those allegations. That attempt, though, fell short, as the show’s cast used facts to obliterate his opinions. A while later, Dan Orlovsky posted a photograph on X.

People often forget that kindness is free.

This was probably him pointing out how he is not happy with the backlash and questions about his integrity, as the former fifth-round pick is kind enough not to hit back at his critics.

Fans tear into Dan Orlovsky

Had this post come at a different time, football fans may not have paid attention. However, since this was directly after his integrity came into question, fans felt that Dan Orlovsky was trying to justify his actions.

They took to social media to berate him for trying to show his kind side when he has openly promoted a quarterback without there being any evidence of him being better than the consensus No. 1 overall pick. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Dan Orlovsky might not be swayed by his management and is just stating the facts in this case. Few study the game as deeply as he does, but this comparison and then the justification have not met with the response he hoped for.

These developments are going to open the floodgates, and Dan Orlovsky will continue to be the primary source of debate across many platforms. Robert Griffin III took first dibs and wrote this on X.

Nitpicking the amount of times a certain “NFL Throw” was made is tailoring your film watching to tear down a guy… You can love both QBs, and you can prefer one over the other. But you can’t get mad when people call you out on faulty reasons for your analysis.

Robert Griffin III wrote

The former Heisman Trophy winner pointed out how the reasons Dan Orlovsky gave to prove that Ty Simpson is better than Fernando Mendoza are clear evidence that he is saying things without context.

If anything, the Indiana Hoosiers’ QB has proven he is far better, and that is why everyone is questioning the integrity of someone with whom he worked at ESPN.
