Dan Orlovsky remains skeptical about the Pittsburgh Steelers’ chances even after signing Aaron Rodgers. Orlovsky doesn’t believe Rodgers’ inclusion improved the Steelers enough to make them a better team than the Bills, Chiefs, Ravens, or Bengals.

The Steelers created a three-man shortlist following their early exit from the playoffs last season. They tried to re-sign Justin Fields and discussed bringing veteran Matthew Stafford in before diverting their complete focus to Rodgers.

According to reports, Rodgers verbally agreed to become the Steelers’ starting quarterback but asked for some time before making his commitment official. As a result, Tomlin and general manager Omar Khan refrained from signing another veteran or drafting a rookie quarterback in the first round.

While Rodgers sorted out his personal issues back home, the Steelers signed wide receiver DK Metcalf and traded George Pickens to the Cowboys. The 41-year-old eventually agreed to a one-year deal.

However, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky isn’t sold on Rodgers’ inclusion because he is in a loaded AFC with players such as Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow.

Orlovsky argued that the AFC is generally a tough conference to play in. Furthermore, teams that are in the upper echelons addressed their shortcomings from last season.

The Steelers improved their quarterback room, but it’s not enough to make them a contender like the Chiefs or the Bills.

As far as Pittsburgh goes, you’ve got two guys in the pass game that you really have to focus on. And then everyone else is like, OK, we’re gonna make you beat us.

The former NFL quarterback argued that even the Denver Broncos, with a second-year quarterback, will be better than the Steelers. For Pittsburgh fans, their team might not be the best in the AFC, but ranking them below the Broncos was a bit too much to handle.

According to analyst Warren Sharp, the Steelers drew the ninth-hardest schedule for the 2025-26 season. The Steelers’ loaded schedule will kick off against Rodgers’ former team, the New York Jets.

Moreover, former NFL linebacker Chris Long believes the Steelers’ locker room may experience a few down moments because of Rodgers.

When he was in New York, and I’m not taking a shot, but I don’t love seeing stuff that should be worked out in the locker room worked out on a podcast. Metcalf has not always been the most surgical of a route runner. You talk about if we end up in a situation where somebody’s not on the right side of the ‘red line,’ famously, infamously, I could see some stuff like that happening and thus the growing pains being tough.

Chris Long told Rich Eisen via Steelers Depot

If the Steelers hold any aspirations of playing beyond the wild card, then Tomlin must bring the best out of Rodgers and Metcalf; otherwise, he risks recording his first-ever losing season in Pittsburgh.
