Bobby Wagner‘s return to the Seattle Seahawks lasted only one year. The cerebral linebacker was on the move once again and penned a contract with the Washington Commanders.
Wagner reunited with his former Seahawks defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn, who is now the head coach of the Commanders. However, this wasn’t the first time Quinn tried to lure the 33-year-old to a team he was part of.
The 2013 Super Bowl winner with the Seahawks spoke with Kay Adams on Thursday’s segment of Up and Adams. Wagner said,
The biggest thing for me is that, coming to the east coast (from the west coast), you wanna come and kinda have and be around some familiar faces. We actually tried to make it happen a couple of times, but it just didn't work out.Bobby Wagner said
Quinn was the Seahawks DC back in 2013, and he wanted to work with Wagner, so the time frame he was talking about only points to the Dallas Cowboys.
So DQ did try to get you to the Cowboys?Kay Adams quickly picked up on it and said
Wagner confirmed the timeline.
This is correct... It didn't work out, and you gotta ask the Cowboys why is that.Bobby Wagner replied
Bobby Wagner signed a one-year, $8.5 million contract with the Commanders, per Spotrac.

Dan Quinn was ecstatic after the Commanders signed Bobby Wagner
Following another disappointing postseason with the Cowboys, Dan Quinn decided to leave Arlington and try his luck at managing another team. The Commanders’ new management hired him, and he did not waste any time signing free agent Wagner.
After the announcement, Quinn revealed that the six-time First-Team All-Pro is the type of player he loves to work with. He claimed Wagner is a tough yet disciplined customer.
Nothing warmed my heart more than Bobby Wagner coming here. If you were a young linebacker being around somebody, this is the exact type of linebacker you’d want to be around.Dan Quinn said via SiriusXM Radio

The Commanders do have a couple of edge rushers who fit the bill. 27-year-old Frankie Luvu, who has been in the NFL since 2018, and 25-year-old Jamie Davis, whom the Commanders selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Luvu said that it was a blessing for him to be in the same locker room as the nine-time Pro Bowler.
The dude is like a treasure box; you never know what you're going to get with him. He's just real at the end of the day; just always there, trying to help all the young guys, myself, and the team as well.Frankie Luvu said after the first day of OTAs
Wagner recorded 1706 tackles in his NFL career, along with 33 sacks, 68 pass deflections, and 13 interceptions.
